Vice President Lab Operations, Europe & APAC

Job Description:

The Vice President Operations directs the activities of laboratory management across all of the Europe and Asia Pacific regions to assure profitable and successful operations and all KPIs are met. These activities include, but are not limited to, technical direction, quality assurance, client and associate relations, cost control, logistics and general administration. This role also acts as the enterprise leader for all lab and medical functions within European Reference Lab business and sits on the Europe/APAC Regional leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direct leadership to the Regional Lab Directors, Managers and Supervisors on developing a strategic plan for the laboratory network and in coordination with the management team implement the plan.Provide direct leadership to the Country and Regional Transportation Managers on developing a strategic plan for the transportation network and in coordination with the management team implement the planResponsible for gross profit of all Laboratory Operations within the region.Function as enterprise leader for all COO functions in Europe and APAC, including but not limited to Medical Operations (Pathology, Medical Excellence and Imaging Services).Responsible for ensuring laboratory performance meets market demand.Collaborate with commercial and imaging services leadership to establish Antech Imaging Services for all addressable markets.Develop and recommend process improvement initiatives and systems to enhance operational efficiency and client service. Monitor operational performance against budget and promote accountability among departmental leaders to achieve goals.Lead and direct in partnership with support teams on all integration activities related to new reference lab acquisitions. Direct and provide leadership to direct reports to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency and maintain alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Hire, develop, train, and coach a successful team. Define establish clear objectives and expectations, providing direct feedback routinely for performance managment and effectively engaging in team development and advancement. Be an advocate for your team and their careers.  Use Mars Associate Survey results for building action plans for continuous improvement to associate experience.Collaborate with COO to set yearly Reference Lab goals and priorities.Responsible for Operations integration of any laboratory acquisitions.Oversee annual budget reviews; work with the finance team to measure progress monthly and quarterly adjusting based on forecasted and actual demand. Develop a headcount and staffing plan that supports the budget and work with finance and HR teams to staff and train accordingly.Prepare and present to the COO period, quarterly, and annual progress reports concerning the status of all operational areas under your leadership.Manage Operational Costs and Capital expenditures in alignment with Antech’s annual budget, monthly/quarterly forecasts, and overall P&L plan. Conduct monthly operational reviews and quarterly P&L reviews with your direct reports.Plan, direct, analyze, improve, and modify the work of leaders and lab associates engaged in conducting operations to meet or beat committed key client metrics, including but not limited to: turn-around-time, cost per test, quality, etc.Work with Global Operations Initiatives team on projects and initiatives prioritized by COO.Develop an Operations Succession plan, provide opportunities for associates to take on stretch assignments, and allocate time to mentor and coach key leaders across the lab network. Promote and support leadership development and training.Work with the Sales Team to support sales and business development plans.Maintain work environment that encourages equal employment opportunity, associate development, and communication.Implement new services and markets as planned by the Chief Operating Officer and SDX.Standardize laboratory methodology for existing and future services utilizing Antech’s Standard Operating Procedures.  Ensure new methodology is implemented and tested so that all analysis activities are in compliance with quality, safety, and other applicable procedures.Establish and maintain positive relationship between key personnel and client base. Monitor and resolve client concerns, answer questions, and provide technical expertise when necessary.   Provide guidance and technical expertise to the client and company personnel to understand and solve technical problems and issues including interpreting laboratory data.   Participate in cross-functional and/or global Lab Operations projects to improve quality, create novel offerings, improve service, or save costs.Administer corporate human resource programs relating to Associate recruitment and retention, compensation, training and development, performance appraisal, and employment record documentation.Develop and maintain expertise in clinical laboratory management and related technologies.Maintain knowledge of Antrim and other applicable laboratory management systems that are required to complete job responsibilities.Maintain a physical presence in the field engaging in regular site visits as needed.Ensure that Associates obtain knowledge sufficient to perform job responsibilities and maintain technical competency.  Institute and maintain systems to monitor and verify related training.Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.  Actively participate in and support efforts to improve the service provided by the laboratory.  Attend meetings and conferences to support corporate quality and production objectives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A Master’s (or advanced) Degree in Science, Biology, or related field15+ years’ experience in a Clinical Laboratory with at least 5 years in a multi-site setting preferredAt least 5 years in a senior leadership roleExcellent verbal and written communication skills Effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive, complex business issuesManage multiple conflicting prioritiesBe self-directed and motivatedProficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
