The Manufacturing Team Leader supervises a designated manufacturing work team. You coordinate department activities on shift to ensure employee safety, product quality, and meeting schedule and equipment efficiency requirements.
Communicate facility equipment and personnel performance to supervisors, managers, and colleagues. Provide suggestions to prevent and resolve problems. Perform duties to achieve an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
Essential Functions:Safety:
Work with a safety-first mind set.Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained within all working areas.Stop, raise, and rectify any noticeable hazards immediately. Coaching and mentoring team where appropriate.Analyze data relating to department safety and ensure vital improvements are actioned with intensity.Ensure all PPE is worn accurately by all team members while performing manufacturing tasks.Ensure accurate manual handling processes are used for moving equipment, trolleys, consumables, and finished goods.Hold themselves and all colleagues accountable for following safety policies and procedures.Plan as well as ensure that all staff handle hazardous materials and wastes in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.Make sure that personnel concerns and operational situations are effectively handled during the shift. This encompasses safety and medical emergencies, property damage, and any unexpected safety events such as fire alarms.Quality:Maintain policies and procedures to ensure standard work daily from all team members.Make decisions based on the potential effect of the fit form or function on our product.Interact with operational team and customers during internal and external customer audits.Raise, impact assess, investigate and root cause any quality issues to maintain adherence to ISO standards.Ensure effective close out of any quality issues raised within the site’s quality management system.Coordinate the activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives.Service:Coordinate the production of cell culture media and reagents.Effectively manage headcount to ensure appropriate staffing levels.Manage the deployment of personnel across all work areas and prioritizing production schedules.Ability to work under pressure in multiple tasks and manage priorities.Find a better way everyday using PPI/continuous improvement tools.Understand and make decisions based on OEE targets.Have Knowledge of processes and routings for core area.People Leading:Supervise the activities of all personnel on assigned shift; serve as the responsible Operations Supervisor on shift for designated value stream. Serve as responsible supervisor for site as needed.Managing people in a variety of situations & have crucial Conversations to manage performance & behaviours.Management of all absences, return to work interviews and in support disciplinary issues.Coach and mentoring teams.Performance Management via 1 to 1’s and bi yearly appraisalsAbility and experience of handling sophisticated process, business, and personnel issues independently.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure full visibility of information.Independently be able to make business decisions when required involving operation team when problem solving larger issues.Abilities:Demonstrate mid-level IT skills, being able to work with the main Microsoft office programs and E1 system.Data collection and presentation skills required using Microsoft packages and power BI.Timekeeping and organizational skills required for self and team.Project management skills, experienced in low to mid-level project or continuous improvement initiative.Ability to identify team’s strengths and develop skill sets.Education:Higher Grade, English, Math’s and at least one Science subject required,
NPA Applied Science or similar science-based college qualification is advantageous.
Suitable qualifications include IOSH Managing Safely, Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt) or higher, knowledge of cGMP and safety regulations (OSHA), and experience with a Quality Management System (QMS).
Experience:Experience in a similar industry is preferable with at supervisory experience spent working in a highly efficient manufacturing environment, warehouse, or distribution operation.
Additional front line leader training will be given to candidates.

Contacts:Collaborates with Cell Culture employees and other departments to ensure safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
This involves working with people at all levels within the organization and may involve interaction with customers during site visits. A team leader will build multiple contacts with at least five other functions within the operation. E.g Planning/Quality/EHS/Operational excellence/manufacturing sciences ,as well as external customers and regulatory bodies.
Working Conditions:
Works in a manufacturing environment which has different types of gowning requirements for graded and non-graded areas. Will be manufacturing floor based predominantly but required to do desk related duties also. May be required to contribute to shop floor tasks on occasion.
Must be able to maintain a safe working environment with chemicals and hazardous materials. Must be able to work overtime and a rotating shift pattern.
