About this opportunity
We are looking for a Software Engineer – Industrial Control Systems to join our Final Assembly Equipment Development team. In this role, you will design and develop automation software solutions that control and orchestrate industrial equipment in a smart factory environment.
You’ll work at the intersection of hardware, embedded systems, and modern backend technologies to build scalable, reliable, and connected automation platforms. Your work will directly contribute to Ericsson’s digital manufacturing transformation by delivering solutions that integrate master control logic, robotics, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) using modern software stacks and virtualization concepts.
This is a hybrid position (3 days per week on site) based at our Tallinn office in Estonia. Local Estonia based applicants will be considered as first priority.
What you will do
• Design and implement control software and virtual controller logic using TypeScript (Node.js)
• Develop and deploy containerized software solutions using Docker and Kubernetes
• Integrate automation systems with MES and production data systems
• Work closely with hardware, software teams as well as PLC and Robot Programmers to ensure seamless system-level operation
• Apply algorithms, data structures, and mathematical modeling to simulate and control real-world industrial systems
• Troubleshoot technical issues and develop quick, effective workarounds or proof-of-concept solutions
• Identify gaps in developer tools and workflows, and advocate for improvements to enhance system efficiency
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our automation architecture and engineering toolchain
The skills you bring
• 2+ years of hands-on software development experience
• Strong experience with TypeScript (Node.js) for backend or control logic development
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
• Understanding of MES integration and production data workflows in industrial settings
• Solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and discrete mathematics
• Experience working with or around embedded systems, robotics, or industrial automation
• Understanding of microservices architecture and principles
• Familiarity with inter-service communication patterns (e.g., REST, gRPC, messaging queues)
• Understanding of service discovery, API gateways, and containerization
• A practical, systems-thinking mindset and strong troubleshooting skills
• A passion for continuous improvement and reducing manual effort through automation
• Experience with C# for automation or control-related applications is a plus
