RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Counsel will support the Abbott Nutrition Division of Abbott Laboratories. The successful candidate will have opportunities to:
Develop a deep understanding of Abbott’s technologies and customersProvide ongoing patent-related training to the businessProvide legal and strategic guidance to clients, including senior managementWork closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mine strategic inventionsManage invention disclosures, including collecting and screening disclosures, conducting inventor interviews, and providing recommendations on filing strategiesManage an active docket, including overseeing the filing and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications and the strategic development of the portfolioManage outside counsel, including reviewing work product to ensure it meets Abbott’s expectationsConduct due diligence assessments on potential mergers and acquisitionsComplete freedom-to-operate assessmentsAssist internal and external litigation counsel on IP litigation mattersDevelop and implement patent strategies for key projectsParticipate in the effective management of the budgetREQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admitted to a U.S. state bar in good standingUSPTO registration in good standingStrong academic backgroundMinimum of 7 years working as a patent attorney and counseling clients on intellectual property issues, including freedom-to-operate and patent prosecutionExcellent oral and written communication and presentation skillsStrong interpersonal skills and strategic thinkingAbility to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneouslyHigh standards for quality and excellencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience handling PTAB proceedings/EPO Oppositions and supporting patent litigationSignificant freedom-to-operate or product clearance experienceIn-house experienceWorking knowledge of patent laws in major jurisdictions outside of the U.S.USPTO experienceThe base pay for this position is $147,300.00 – $294,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
