We are hiring a Senior Software Development Manager for the Java Sustaining Engineering Team at Oracle, part of the larger Java Platform Development Group, where you would work on the Oracle JDK HotSpot Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
The Java JVM Sustaining Engineering Team is responsible for finding and resolving bugs in the JVM. Key technical areas we cover include garbage collection, byte code to machine code compilation, lock/threading code, serviceability tools, and much more.

We are looking for a manager in Stockholm, Sweden, for the Java SE Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Sustaining Engineering team where you will get the opportunity to work on problems that impact stability of Java in mission critical situations.
For this position, the ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, problem solving skills, and communication skills combined with the ability to assess problems within various parts of the code and across the major releases of Java.
In this role, the selected candidate will:
Manage assigned project tasks effectively, completing deliverables on time with quality Manage and lead a team of engineers Mentor and support employees Provide technical and functional guidance to team members Recommend employment actions (i.e. hiring, compensation, promotions and terminations to the next level manager) Facilitate career development and professional growth of staff Meet division and/or product family release dates and follow release processes Balance functional and organizational priorities in development plans Improve product quality by enforcing processes Provide detailed subject matter direction to team Interact with external groups, such as Product Management, Product Marketing, etc., with supervision Recommend improvements to defined processes and standards Understand and provide tactical solutions to problems Deliver results that meet or exceed expectations Submit all administrative work, internal and external, on time Administer company policies that directly affect staff Demonstrate good presentation skills Develop work plans with employees and provide regular supervision of work Conduct 1 on 1 meetings with each employee periodically Conduct team meetings periodically Drive the resolution of complex field software problems escalated to Sustaining by 3rd level Oracle technical supportWhile the position will be based out of Stockholm, Sweden, you will work with Java SE Product Development and Support engineers around the world with some limited travel necessary. As well as working standard business hours there will be occasional on-call requirements during the evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

Hands-on manager with ability to get involved in details in all aspect of the development cycle Demonstrate excellent design skills Demonstrate technical leadership skills Knowledge of Java Virtual Machine technologies, garbage collection, Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation, etc Experience in Linux/Windows environments (macOS and Solaris also desirable) Demonstrate good functional knowledge in several relevant business areas outside the immediate area of product application Possess good knowledge of Microsoft Office Possess extensive experience with release management processes and tasks (install, upgrade, builds, patching, etc) Ability to provide thorough and useful technical information Able to work well both with local and remote team members & adheres to group processes Strong organizational skills and written and oral communication in English, with other languages beneficial Interest in Open Source software
