Senior Project Controller

Tetra Tech’s Water (WTR) Business Unit, established in 1966, is looking for a Senior Project Controller to join our multi-disciplinary team that plans, designs, and delivers large, complex projects related to flood risk management, inland navigation, coastal and river restoration programs, and more.  This position is a critical role, supporting our project delivery teams in the execution of over a billion dollars of awarded contract capacity for a wide range of federal, state, local, and commercial clients. This position can function remotely, however a physical presence with one of our larger design centers in Irvine (CA) or Seattle/Bellevue (WA) is preferred. 

As the Senior Project Controller, you’ll have the opportunity to step in quickly to provide group wide leadership and functional support in the following areas:

Project Controls/Deputy Project Management 

Training and mentoring of lessor experienced staff engaged in project management/controls  Project scheduling and critical path network analysis (experience with a variety of scheduling tools including Primavera, Microsoft Project, etc.)  Workplan development, progress tracking, and monitoring for schedule and cost impacts of deviations from workplan  Earned value analysis  Group-wide engineering quality assurance audits and documentation  Scope change documentation and administration (with client interaction)  Risk management (register) profiling and tracking

Proposal and Project Delivery 

Proposals – assist in proposal preparation and project management approach write-ups, ensuring corporate financial review procedures are followed and cost modelling is properly executed  Project/proposal initiation – prepare forms, coordinate management review and project setup by finance team  Subcontracting – work closely with subcontractors for oversight and change management of scope, schedule, and cost factors, manage subcontract preparation, invoice review, insurance certificates, and administer compliance with health and safety prequalification process  Project invoicing and collections – coordinate with the billing department to ensure all costs are invoiced properly and in a timely manner, consistent with contract terms  Provide project specific input to quarterly backlog analysis, load-levelling, and utilization forecasting  Other duties as assigned 

  Team Communication 

Maintains positive working relationships and open lines of communication with Project Managers, Office/Ops Managers, Finance team, technical and administrative staff  Regularly attend project review meetings, communicate project specific action items, schedule/budget concerns, subcontracting actions, financial red flags, deviations from workplan, etc.

 

 To be successful in the role of Senior Project Controller, you’ll need to be:

An experienced project controls professional, with at least 10 years of experience exceeding expectations in all aspects of project controls and other tasks and deliverables for A/E projects. Preference will be given to candidates with a related engineering degree and/or project management certification. Significant project controls experience that demonstrates the ability to organize and execute a project management plan, including a work breakdown structure, chart of accounts, cost analysis, cash flow, detailed project schedule (with maintenance protocol), risk register, client progress report protocol, and change management procedures. Highly experienced in all aspects of change management and client facing communications for justification. Able to successfully work closely with project managers and operational leadership, with full engagement from initial project set-up to project completion. Able to communicate project progress and deviations in scope, schedule and cost effectively, using appropriate software tools. Preference will be given to candidates proficient in using Project Wise. Able to effectively communicate with, mentor, or direct the activities of project administration staff. Willing to travel locally to regional offices to attend meetings or facilitate/attend training as needed.

The salary range for this position is approximately $150,000 - 200,000 depending on education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
