Job Description

We are looking for a public affairs and communications professional to join as Senior Manager, North America Communications and Public Affairs. In this role, you will help to drive communications programs that support our policy and legislative priorities at the U.S. federal and state levels, as well as our broader storytelling across the North America region.

You will work in partnership with U.S. Government Engagement (focused on federal, state, international and regulatory affairs) and cross functional teams across the business, and in conjunction with clients. You will also be a bridge to and from Visa’s broader corporate communications, corporate affairs, media relations and content teams in region. Critical to success will be strong organizational skills and a proven ability to develop relationships, both internally and externally with clients and industry partners.

The right candidate loves to write, can start from a blank page and quickly bring persuasive arguments and proactive stories to life for any channel and any audience. Finally, this team member understands the rapidly evolving communications profession – from AI driven tools and resources to the evolving media landscape (traditional and social) – and can leverage that knowledge for the benefit of the broader Visa team.

This position will be based in the Washington D.C. and will report to the Senior Director, North America Communications and Public Affairs. The ideal candidate will have a blend of corporate communications, public affairs and issues management experience.

Responsibilities:

Help implement public affairs strategies and develop integrated communications to reach key stakeholders in state capitals on complex subjects, in support of the company's business priorities.Develop locally relevant, issue-based narratives to support policy priorities that resonate with policymakers, community leaders, issue-specific experts and the media.Draft content that successfully activates those narratives: write/design everything from client memos and issue briefs to executive briefing documents and presentations, to op-eds, blog posts and digital ads.Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, be a key player on cross-functional teams, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.Diligently track data and metrics to measure progress and success; turn these insights into compelling narratives to update internal and external stakeholders.Leverage advanced tools and technologies, including social media, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics, to innovate communication practices and measure effectiveness.Prepare briefing materials for senior executives for media or other public appearances related to public policy goals.Track, monitor and report on state legislative developments relevant to the company’s business priorities.Stay at the forefront of industry trends, continuously adapting new tools and strategies to the evolving landscape of digital communication and public engagement.Understand the differences between social media platform engagement and efficacy; draft content and/or report on key metrics and performance.Act as communications liaison with select trade associations, such as State Banking Associations, America’s Credit Unions and others that represent the industry’s interests in state capitals across the United States. This position will be based in the Washington D.C. and will report to the Senior Director, North America Communications and Public Affairs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:
9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
Public affairs/communications experience at a corporation, trade association and/or agency.
Natural connector and influencer.
Deep understanding of the connection points between business and public policy.
Fluent in multi-channel campaigns including social, digital, earned and paid media.
Stellar writing, editing skills and oral communications skills, including interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and with blurry boundaries.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and manage multiple projects, often on short deadlines and under pressure.
Known to think ahead, engage proactively, take initiative and solve problems.
Calm under pressure.
Expert at communicating effectively and managing up.
Sense of humor is a must.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 128,000 to 190,350 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
