Senior Employment Legal Counsel DACH (m/f/d)

The position will report to the EMEA Assistant General Counsel, Employment based in Brussels.

The primary function of this role is to provide pragmatic in-house legal services to Oracle’s HR teams in Germany and by extension other German speaking countries on a broad spectrum of employment related legal and compliance issues in a matrix organisation with multiple established works councils. 

Although the role is based in Germany/Austria/Belgium, areas of responsibility may extend to other jurisdictions in Europe.

Job summary and Mission:

As in house Employment Lawyer, you will play an important role in supporting the company’s employment objectives & strategies for Europe, working alongside other employment lawyers in the EMEA Employment Legal team who are based in UK and Belgium.

Key Responsibilities include:

Counsel and advise HR and other internal client groups (e.g. Employee Relations, Compliance & Ethics, Privacy Legal, Global Incentive Comp, Compensation & Benefits … ) on a myriad of employment law matters, particularly relating to the Oracle entities in Germany with their respective establishments spread across the country; Advise on Works Council related legal topics in context of diversity of projects, restructurings, disputes, proceedings, communications etc.  Support, manage and advise on employment related litigation/arbitrations and settlement negotiations;  Advise on issues arising from corporate acquisitions and restructurings, insourcing and outsourcing projects, individual terminations, performance cases, commission disputes etc. Advising on employment legal aspects relating to (changes in) employee benefits, variable compensation schemes; Interaction with outside counsel.

 

Profile:

German Law degree is required. Minimum 4 years post graduate work experience in German Employment Law.  In-depth knowledge of German Employment Law, particularly of Works Constitution Act and related obligations and restrictions.  Must be willing and able to work remotely in a virtual team with some limited travel, including to other countries in Europe, plus the United States, as required for the role. Must also be able to work from Oracle office(s) when needed. Must be able to work on multiple projects in different teams with strong eye for deadlines Have high ethical standards.  Team player with proficient social and communication skills. Eager to learn and develop and step into new challenging projects – also as needed in other countries.  Mother tongue German with excellent verbal and written English communication skills are a must. Knowledge of another European language (e.g French) is a plus. Business awareness and orientation (ability to match legal expertise to commercial business context) are essential. Comfortable in a complex and fast paced ever-changing business environment.
