Position
Senior Counsel, Real Time Payments

Location
London, UK. As our team supports the business globally, the role may require the ability to support other time zones and some travel.

Overview
We are looking for an experienced lawyer to join our legal team, providing support and advice to the Real Time Payments business including our RTP UK and International business units which in some countries, are regulated.

Role
This role handles commercial contracting with customers, suppliers and partners, product support and general legal support matters for the business on a day-to-day basis, identifying and analysing relevant issues and helping the business effectively navigate legal and regulatory risks and implement appropriate controls, policies and processes. Your key responsibilities will include:

•\tCommercial Contracts: Draft, review, negotiate, and advise upon a variety of commercial agreements with our customers, suppliers and other partners.
•\tStakeholder Management and Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, working in collaboration with specialists (including compliance, regulatory, data privacy and intellectual property counsel) providing strategic legal advice and support.
•\tProduct Support: Provide comprehensive legal support throughout the product lifecycle, from development to launch and beyond. Identify and help ensure our products comply with Mastercard policies, relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.
•\tExternal Counsel Coordination: Instruct and manage external legal advisors within agreed policy and budget.
•\tAd Hoc Legal Support: Deal with whatever the business throws at you by working with legal colleagues outside the team and, if necessary, external counsel.

All About You

•\tQualified Lawyer with a strong academic background. As a guide, we expect this role will be best suited to lawyers with 5+ years PQE but if you are outside that range and interested, we are happy to still consider your application.
•\tAbility to identify key legal issues, put these into the context of the business you support and articulate those issues clearly with potential solutions/options.
•\tAbility to quickly understand and maintain knowledge of complex products, services, and regulatory/legal frameworks.
•\tAbility to identify regulatory, data privacy and intellectual property issues and work with other teams to resolve them.
•\tStrong drafting, writing, oral communication, and negotiating skills.
•\tStrong experience in relationship building, stakeholder management and partnering.
•\tCan-do attitude, self-motivated and able to drive delivery against objectives.
•\tExcellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
•\tPrior experience with commercial contracting, technology and/or working in a regulated industry.
•\tPrior experience of working in a regulated environment is considered a strong asset.
•\tPrior experience in supporting product development, even if in a different industry, is considered a strong asset.
•\tExperience as an in-house lawyer in a multinational company is desirable but not essential.
•\tInterested in financial services, payments and technology (prior experience? Even better).
