Research Scientist II

This laboratory-based position is part of the R&D Enzyme Development Team located in Coralville, Iowa and will be on-site. At IDT, we are one global team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: + Support and develop early-stage research projects and/or products as well as be part of a dynamic and innovative team to contribute your knowledge and technical skills to the growth of IDT’s new product development pipeline. + Utilize your skillsets in cloning, sequencing, optimizing upstream and downstream bioprocessing and final characterization of protein products + Work alongside other team members to characterize purified proteins by measuring kinetic parameters such as enzyme activities and binding affinities using UV-VIS absorbance, fluorescence, chemiluminescence, circular dichroism, binding assays, and coupled enzymatic assays in vitro. + Analyze, summarize, and communicate experimental results to team members and assist in the preparation of technical reports for internal use and assist in filing invention disclosures. + Collaborate with cross functional teams to bring projects to a successful conclusion while ensuring timelines are met. The essential requirements of the job include: + Bachelor’s degree in life sciences (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, etc.) or relevant field AND 3+ years of relevant lab experience OR Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in life sciences (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, etc.) or relevant field AND 1+ year of relevant lab experience + 3+ years of demonstrated experience using a variety of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical, biophysical, and general laboratory techniques to innovate protein-based Genomics products offered by IDT. Some laboratory techniques include bacterial fermentation and collections, protein purification, quantification, and detection of unwanted biological activity, nucleic acid isolation, qPCR, PCR, DNA quantification, DNA and RNA sequencing using next-generation sequencing + 3+ years of demonstrated experience maintaining detailed records of work, creation of formal documents and presentations, and participation in the technology transfer process to IDT’s commercial production groups Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: + Ability to travel up to 10% domestically or internationally + Ability to work in a cleanroom and scientific laboratory environment It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: + Prior industry experience focused on new product development and commercialization of life science or biotechnology products + Experience with AKTA FPLC systems and Unicorn software and working knowledge of various chromatographic resins (affinity, IEX, HIC, mix-mode, SEC) + Experience with expression and purification of recombinant proteins, protein characterization (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, activity assay, nuclease and gDNA contamination), various resins, assay development, and enzyme kinetics Join our winning team today.
