MAIN JOB PURPOSE
The Laboratory Analyst role runs the site testing facility and ensures that all applicable test methods are in place, that measurement standards are accurate and reproducible, and that all laboratory and satellite testing equipment is appropriate, calibrated and operated to the required standard.
This role works with limited supervision. The Laboratory Analyst identifies the most appropriate calibration and maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment to minimize measurement drift and produce repeatable results. Analyst will recommend the most appropriate test methods as issues arise, including decision to pursue non-standard testing if necessary.
SKILLS AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Key Accountabilities
People, Culture & Linkage
Executes and verifies effectiveness of training plans for new laboratory methods or ensures maintenance of existing skills related to laboratory methods and equipment calibration.
Liaises with PG, R&D and Measurement Communities of Practice regarding
methods and equipment.
Quality Systems Management
Prepares local procedures and work instructions that ensure Unilever and other applicable standards for proper calibration, application and control of laboratory methods.
Supports reporting of operational KPIs by analyzing complex data and assigning into standard Quality loss trees.
Complies with requirements regarding use of SAP QM and Unilever specifications including use of PLM system.
Provides expert advice on most appropriate method to investigate, including
advanced technologies available, and interpretation of results.
Provides expertise regarding use of and maintains relationship with external
laboratories as appropriate to investigate non-conforming materials and
products.
Testing & Measurement
Supports site program for quality assurance of raw materials and packaging
components, work-in-process and finished goods and documents results /
information as required in designated system such as SAP QM.
Utilizes advanced technical knowledge (e.g. chemistry, microbiology, sensory,
statistics, mathematics, etc.) to support site quality testing program and sensory panels for raw materials and packaging components, work-in-process and finished goods aligned with Unilever requirements and specifications.
Applies correct methods and equipment and implements proper calibration and control of testing to verify and reproduce results against specifications.
Acts based upon specification limits to hold or release in-bound materials, workin-process and finished product (unless local regulations dictate the Q Specialist or Manager to make the final decision).
Sets all good laboratory practices, good laboratory housekeeping and waste
disposal, Unilever requirements and testing methods, and applicable government / authority regulations, such as conducting ring tests and proper maintenance and condition of all Quality assets (e.g. product and material retains, testing equipment, etc.).
Ensures all laboratory ware, chemicals and reagents are of the appropriate
standard and within shelf-life.
Ensures all laboratory equipment is safe to operate and safe work practices are followed.
Executes procedures and documents results of independent checks and
verifications that are required as part of site-wide program of calibration and
maintenance of inspection, measuring and testing equipment including Gage R&R study, to minimize measurement drift and produce repeatable results.
Takes action to hold testing until any failed equipment calibration or method
capability checks are returned to operational requirements.
Maintains systems where key quality data and information are recorded and
archived.
Continuous Improvement
Provides method and data analysis support for projects to reduce and/or
eliminate quality losses as needed.
Trends analytical data to help identify supplier improvement opportunities and
manufacturing process capability.
Innovation & Change
Provides method support for executing innovation trials, early management in site projects, VIP trials, and Launch Monitoring Plans for innovations and equipment changes.
Quality and Consumer Safety
Working knowledge on the UL Quality Management System, BRC, ISO 22716, T5Z, and FFZ procedures and protocols.
Supports the implementation of UL Quality Management System, BRC, ISO 22716, T5Z, and FFZ protocols to ensure consumer safety and overall quality of the final product manufactured in the site especially for new product innovation and new processes.
Conducts verification of site compliance to the UL QMS, HACCP, and Category GMP through internal audits and quality deep dive activities.
Conducts investigation with the Supplier on EA, EB and EC incidents and develop sustainable improvements on Supplier Quality.
Develops site specific standard operating procedures and work instructions that supports the consistent implementation of the UL QMS, Consumer Safety Program and other applicable standards.
Identifies digital transformation projects for Quality and executes the same to facilitate continual improvement of the Innovation and Improvement process.
Continuous Improvement
Understands UMS principles and supports the Quality Pillar.
Targets quality, waste, and cost improvement with UMS methodology and collaborating with production on the execution of the defined improvements.
Utilizes critical thinking to innovate current processes and deploy improvement
Safety, Health, and Environment
Respect and follow all safety, health and environment rules, procedures and protocols related to the operations in the site.
Understands the legal responsibility relevant to safety, health, and environment as well as its implications to the scope of the job.
Conducts Safety Behavioral Observations focusing on Safe / Unsafe Acts and Conditions noted within the site as part of daily routine.
Full knowledge of the workplace and hazards within it. Utilize all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the task.
Problem Solving
Uses appropriate tools and prioritization techniques aligned with UMS methodology in providing solution to noted quality and consumer safety issues.
Decision Making
Demonstrates initiative to handle quality and consumer safety related decisions in coordination with the site Quality Manager.
Makes technical decisions to support the quality team working at inbound material assessment through and provides of documented SOPs and training.
Works under limited supervision and has some freedom to arrange order of duties other than routine quality tasks.
Project Management
Attains the required output and targets of the defined quality improvement projects given the agreed timelines.
Uses appropriate project management tools and techniques to ensure efficient use of technical, financial and human resource.
Business Acumen
Understands the need to meet the changing demands of consumers and the impact of quality and consumer safety on consumer buying decisions.
Ensures correct and on-time product or material quality assessment and disposition
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Graduate of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry
Preferably Licensed Chemist or Chemical Technician
Presentation skills (well versed in MS Office and Power Apps)
Reading, comprehension, and communication skills
Working knowledge in GLP, WCM, TPM, HACCP and HPC 420
Manufacturing experience in FMCG
