Provider Contracting Director - Europe

Position Summary

This role sets the strategy and leads the team of professionals focused on contracting with healthcare providers and third-party administrators providing access to care for customers in Europe. The candidate will also be part of the senior leadership team for the International Organizations (IO) line of business within Cigna International Health (IH), which provides health benefits for employees of IGO’s and NGO’s and their families around the world. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for governance and capability for IH globally, including guiding the network strategy and overseeing relationships with vendors.

Primary Duties

Develop and execute the strategy for healthcare provider contracting across Europe as well as the global network strategy for the IO business line.Lead the governance of the Cigna IH network function and direct the development of capabilities including tools, reporting, and other assets that support the execution of the network function’s activities globally.Own and manage relationships with key vendors and third-party administrators globally as well as identify and set up new relationships to help expand access and value for Cigna’s customers and clients.Manage a team of approximately 5 network managers as well as influence business partners and stakeholders in a highly matrixed organizational environment.Lead contract negotiations with healthcare providers to establish optimal terms meeting the organizational goals of access, quality, cost-effectiveness and customer experience.Foster and maintain strong relationships with key providers, acting as the primary point of contact.Partner with provider services organization, primarily provider relations area, to resolve provider issues.Continuously evaluate the provider network to identify gaps, redundancies and opportunities for expansion or consolidation. Collaborate across internal stakeholders on strategies to enhance the network.Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate the performance of the network team and reveal business insights to support management teams.

This is a key leadership position within the Cigna International Health global network team as well as the International Organizations line of business.Significant senior leadership exposure, including the CEO and senior management team for IO business, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Leadership Team for International Health.Ability to assume increasing responsibility for provider relations and other regions, including the global provider contracting lead.

Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study.At least 10 years of experience in international healthcare provider contracting and specific knowledge of healthcare providers in Europe.In-depth knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies, contracting principles, and legal requirements.Strong communication, facilitation, presentation and leadership skills with a proven ability to lead, influence and motivate others cross-country and cross-function.Strong decision making & problem solving skills; can identify issues, recommend and implement solutions.Strong accountability and ability to execute working individually as well as through teams.Excellent verbal and written skills in English, proficiency in other European languages preferred but not essential.International travel expected.
