Tetra Tech is currently seeking a full-time, Project Scientist for our Albuquerque, NM office to work on our response, assessment and evaluation services (RAES) program, which is part of a larger program associated with abandoned mines.  

This dynamic position involves coordinating multiple field teams from several companies to ensure health and safety protocols are being implemented. 

Work is performed in a shared field trailer in a remote area that is a 1.5-hour drive from the nearest town, and oversight work in the Lukachukai mountains will also periodically occur as necessary.  Leadership of daily field health and safety briefings and monthly safety meetings attended by 25+ participants.  

Field mobilization is from April through November work also occurring on weekends; mobilizations will likely involve a 2-week onsite; 1-week offsite schedule.  


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. You will also have / be:

•    Leadership qualities, a commitment to safety, and flexibility to adapt to changing site conditions and priorities.
•    Familiarity with health and safety protocols at large investigation and cleanup sites, including emergency response, communication, and traffic.
•    Experience with construction oversight. 
•    Environmental investigations.
•    Experience with wilderness first aid.
•    Familiarity with heavy equipment, earthwork construction, and land surveying.
•    Experience in southwestern United States, environmental remediation, mining and mine reclamation, uranium mining and mills, interaction with regulatory agencies, tribal lands, CERCLA sites.
•    Excellent communication skills.


Degree / Certifications
•    BS or BA in engineering (civil, environmental, geotechnical), environmental science, construction management, or geology from an accredited college or university. 
•    Professional certification is desirable. 
•    40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus
•    30-hour OSHA construction safety training is a plus.
•    Wilderness first aid training is a plus. 

Work Environment
This position is primarily field work. The field work is anticipated to be in Arizona and New Mexico. Work is performed in a shared field trailer in a remote area that is a 1.5-hour drive from the nearest town, and oversight work in the Lukachukai mountains will also periodically occur as necessary.

You must be able to / have:

•    A physical capacity for working outdoors, often in isolated areas, is required. 
•    Travel and work on weekends.
•    Work outdoors in all weather conditions, both hot and cold.  
•    Walk on uneven terrain. 
•    Work in variable outdoor environments, packing heavy equipment, and excavations using hand tools. 
•    Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds).
•    Don personal protective gear as needed.
•    You must be able drive on a regular basis.  Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
