Job Description:

Gender Officer.

The Role:

The Gender Officer ensures gender sensitivity and inclusiveness in humanitarian and relief programs. They conduct gender analysis, develop tailored strategies, and collaborate with program teams to address gender-specific challenges. The role involves promoting women's empowerment, engaging marginalized groups, and monitoring compliance with gender and inclusion standards. They also provide training, collect gender-disaggregated data, and support the development of gender mainstreaming tools. Additionally, they assist in strengthening protection and referral systems and prepare reports on gender-related achievements.

Key Responsibilities:

Beneficiary Identification and Registration:

Ensure efficient and gender-sensitive beneficiary identification and registration processes.Adhere to program guidelines while maintaining gender balance.Participate in the identification and registration of Beneficiaries for Programs, ensuring the process is conducted efficiently and aligns with Programs guidelines and be a gender sensitive.

Gender Analysis:

Conduct detailed gender analysis to understand the specific needs, risks, and vulnerabilities of different gender groups in the target communities.

Gender-sensitive Strategies

Develop and implement gender-sensitive strategies tailored to the specific project implementation context within relief and humanitarian programs. Collaborate with program teams to ensure interventions address gender-specific challenges and enhance inclusiveness.

Work closely with program teams to address gender-specific challenges and ensure inclusiveness in all interventions.

Promoting Women’s Empowerment:

Design and implement initiatives that enhance women’s access to resources and promote empowerment.

Community Engagement:

Engage with marginalized groups and the broader community to promote gender equity and challenge harmful gender norms.

Inclusive Decision-Making:

Ensure that diverse voices, including those from marginalized and vulnerable gender groups, are included in program design and decision-making processes.

Gender-disaggregated Data Collection:

Collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data to assess the inclusivity and equity of interventions.

Training and Capacity Building:

Provide training on gender sensitivity and inclusiveness to community members and program staff.

Gender Mainstreaming Tools:

Develop and implement tools and resources to integrate gender into all project activities.

Monitoring and Compliance:

Monitor the adherence to gender and inclusion standards across all program activities and ensure that interventions are gender-sensitive.

Reporting:

Prepare reports on the progress of gender and inclusiveness efforts, highlighting successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

Protection and Referral Systems:

Work with the M&E team to strengthen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for addressing protection concerns (e.g., child protection, GBV, fraud, and SEA) in line with corporate policies.

Additional Tasks:

Support the line manager with any other relevant tasks as assigned.

Essential:

Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ relevant experience in in gender and inclusiveness roles within a humanitarian or relief context, preferably in Somalia or similar settings.Proven experience in conducting gender analyses and designing gender-sensitive programs.Experience in a Humanitarian field context a strong added advantage.Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills.Very good organizational and administrative skillsAttention to detail.Good cultural awareness and sensitivity.Strong team working and support role skills.Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure with minimum supervision.Good task orientation and ability to follow actions through to completionExperience in recovery and resilience programs in Somalia, particularly in Pastoralists and dry land zones.Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contextsKnowledge of Galmudug contexts is desirable.Fluency in Somali and local languages in the area of operation is must.

Working Environment:

The position is field-based in Galkayo-Galmudug with frequent travel to field operation areas required.
