Job Description:

Project Assistant-Nutrition

The Role:

The position holder will assist in the field level implementation of WFP Nutrition project activities in target location as per national and international standards. The Project Assistant-Nutrition will also be responsible in supporting Project Officer to keep field level records, ensure referral pathways, coaching community nutrition workers and works closely with commodity team to ensure the commodities received from WFP are managed properly.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Implementation;

Ensure proper documentation of activities at both the community and health facility level ensuring that accurate beneficiary records are maintained Oversee quality and timely implementation of project activitiesSupport the Project/Coordinator in the development of project management tools at the start of nutrition projectsSupport the Project Officer/Coordinator in reviewing and updating project management tools on monthly basis monitor progress towards achieving the targets.Check that nutritional protocols are respected: admission and discharge criteria, frequency of measurement, distribution of nutrition products and systematic treatment protocols are followed.Ensure that the health facilities keep updated stock of all essential supplies and requisitions for health and nutrition supplies are made in a timely manner.Support in capacity building of the health and nutrition teams on IMAM and IYCF. Identify training needs and conduct regular refresher training.Ensure that all requests for required project input (from WFP as GIK or procured by WV) are placed on time and items are availed in all project sitesSupport IYCF and BCC activities by supporting and building the capacity of community nutrition workersEnsure effective implementation and coordination of projectEnsure that nutrition activities for TSFP/MCHN, BSFP& OTP,pregnant and lactating are implementation according to work plansEnsure that those admitted in the program are immunized according to the MOH approved scheduleEnsure that CHWs’ activities at the community level are on course and the team offers required support.Check that the stock and pharmacy are managed well, the supply of items needed in the CMAM team, follow up the equipment’s and general supplies.

Monitoring and Evaluation; 

Support the Project Officer/Coordinator in organizing monthly supportive supervision to nutrition program sites using supervision checklist and produce quality report with action points.Participate in joint monitoring visits by MOH officials, donor agencies or world vision management teamsActive participation and support assessments and project M&E activities in the project sites.

Quality and Timely Reporting;

 Ensure that all health facilities have the required data recording and reporting toolsAssist Project Officer/Coordinator to ensure all health centers are submit quality nutrition and commodity movement reports on timely manner.Support Project Officer/Coordinator to ensure beneficiary figures are calculated and submitted to commodity team on monthly basis.

Capacity Building

Support Project Officer on training/workshops as per planned timeline, budget and qualityConduct regular on-job training for MOH nutrition staff and community Nutrition Workers to address the findings of supervision and document the trainings in the supervision reports

Finance and Budget Management

   Ensure Payment requests for MOH seconded staff and community volunteers is initiated on time with all the required documents

Representation and internal & external coordination

Support Project Officer meeting with community leaders and health committees during supervision visits to get feedback on the quality of the program and update them on the progress of activitiesParticipate in internal program integration and coordination meetings with other WVI sectors to ensure program integration

Essential:

Bachelor Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or any other related fields.At least 2 years’ experience in managing health/nutrition projects preferably maternal and child health services.Project management experience is an added advantageExperience in the management of health services in humanitarian organizationSolid experience in training and capacity building experience, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in for trainingProfessional experience related to behavior change communication and health promotion projectsExperience in writing donor and internal reportsGood computer skill especially Microsoft office. Data management experience is an added advantageGood knowledge of WFP programme design and implementation including SCOPE registration, nutrition, relief projects and referral pathways

Working Environment:

The position is field-based in Bal’ad, Hirshabeele State with frequent travel to field operation areas required.
