Principal PCS Engineer 

 

The main purpose of this position is to ensure that all process control systems including hardware, software and any related equipment within the EUS production areas can support safe, cost effective, environmentally responsible and quality production.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal PCS Engineer, are to:  

Ensure the operability and reliability of all Environmental Operations and Utility Systems (EUS) process control systems and instrumentation including operating systems, safety instrumented systems (SIS, Burner Management, etc.), interlocks and low voltage electrical equipment. EUS production areas include Waste Water Treatment, Thermal Oxidizer Waste Burning, Process Vent Gas Incineration, Steam Generation, Air Compression, Chilled, Potable and Cooling Water Systems, Fenton Oxidation Reaction Waste Water Treatment as well as site wide Siemens Ventilation System controls;Provide technical troubleshooting support of all instrumentation, process control and low voltage electrical systems within all areas of EUS to support PCT’s, Operations Specialists, Process Engineers and Operators;Lead the PCT engineering aspect of all EUS capital projects. Direct PCS engineering and PCS designer support;Provide engineering design, implementation, commissioning, startup and operational technical support; Develop scopes, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, bid and construction packages as well as oversee and direct installation contractors; PCS Engineer leading multidiscipline teams on EUS medium and smaller capital and expense type projects. Provide engineering design and support implementation. Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and AFE’s for all PCS installations;Configure and maintain all EUS Distributed Control Systems (Delta V Programmable Controller Systems), Various Programmable Logic Controllers (Centrifuges, Belt Filter, Air Compressors, Chillers, etc.), Burner Management Systems, Site-wide Building Automation System (Siemens DesigoCC) and various safety systems (SIS, Vibration, UPS, etc.);Provide continual process control systems operational support. Technical resource for Site and EUS Engineers, Operation Specialists, Operators and PCT’s to implement process improvements, improve efficiency and reduce costs. EUS operates 365 days per year and this position provides continuous support as needed;Lead the overall EUS PCT effort including all aspects such as specifying equipment, implementation, testing, maintaining as well as documentation. Serve as a technical resource for PCT Technicians, Planner and Supervisor. Coordinate PCT Engineering and Design support;Monitor, coordinate, and oversee periodic inspections/testing and proper implementation of all process control and low voltage electrical systems, specifically Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Regulatory Compliance Systems. Specify and design new systems and instruments. Develop test procedures, coordinate testing, configure systems, document and support maintenance on all SIS, PCT-I, Burner Management Systems and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems;Support unit operations in regards to assisting with operating procedures, performance testing, Manage of Change, participate in process hazard assessments, continuous improvement teams, OnePSS, etc.

 WHO YOU ARE

 Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Automation Engineering or a related disciplineStrong leadership and communication skills with abilities to influence and successfully drive teamwork;Possess thorough understanding of PCS concepts and practices;A good and solid understanding of maintenance and project management;Good understanding of processes associated with operation and maintenance of a chemical plant;Understanding of Functional Safety;Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing skills;Working knowledge of state and local codes and regulatory standards that apply to process control systems (PCT) technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s with 8 years of combined experience in PCS Engineering and/or PCS maintenance in manufacturing operations OR Master’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Automation Engineering or a related discipline with at least 6 years of combined experience in PCT Engineering and/or PCT maintenance in chemical manufacturing operations;Previous PCT Engineering experience;Previous experience leading teams and projects.
