Principal Engineer, Order Engineering ExperienceBusiness environmentAirline Solutions Order Engineering supports the airline industry in managing the reservation and financial processes behind the bookings performed by passengers and travel agents with a view to guarantee accurate revenue recognition and timely cash flow. Our portfolio of applications includes Ticketing & financial reporting, Revenue Accounting & Integrity and Order Management System. We organize our activities within the SAFe Agile Release Trains of Order, Air Distribution & Content (ADC) and Nevio business domains.
In this context, the Engineering Experience team (ENX) enables the members of the Order engineering community to focus on delivering values, by fostering best practices and providing state-of-the-art tools and technologies. The team is owner of several components and responsible for CI/CD pipelines, as well as shared tools. Among the main challenges, we are coordinating the migration of the Order codebase to GitHub in collaboration with all component teams of the area, and updating the engineering toolchain to unlock the full potential of our applications in the Cloud environment. The team organizes the activities in a Kanban, that serves different Agile Release Trains as a System Team.
Your Main ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a Principal Engineer that is passionate about tools and technologies, and motivated to help and coach members of the engineering community to express their full potential.
Common accountabilitiesProficient in technical knowledge to ensure team performs at a high level. Is recognized as a leader in own area and may formally train Specialists/Senior Specialists.
Understands how main business drivers may impact on own area. Can assess complex problems with broad impact on the activity, improve processes, recommend solutions and risk mitigation plans. Able to communicate complex information.
Works with a high level of autonomy, based on management directions. Leads projects or contributes to broad cross-functional projects. May contribute to planning of resources and budget.
Specific accountabilitiesTechnical Excellence
Producing code of high quality with high efficiency.
Work in each step of the product development cycle including creating technical requirements, leading complex feasibility studies, project planning, identifying dependencies and improvements.
Investigate, analyze & give recommendations on the root causes of complex software and system defects.
Solving problems / troubleshooting in a timely manner & with a high level of engagement.
Foster applications that are easy to monitor and operate, to improve infrastructure availability.
Apply best practices on code quality and security-safe code through non-functional requirements mastery, code reviews, coding guidelines, unit testing and code refactoring.
Technological Acumen – cross disciplinary knowledge (ex. UI, network…).
Continuous Improvement
Suggest evolution of the component and make recommendations on how to manage the debt of the code / clean up the code.
Improve the technical aspect of the project delivery and provide recommendations for engineering process improvement.
Building cross-functional/technical teams & knowledge sharing
Work easily with others / ensure smooth communication.
Consistently create successful engagement on projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams in driving operating and service excellence.
Attending to PE community events.
Contribute to the R&D cultural transformation and talent development through team members (junior members) technical coaching and mentoring (give an answer, provide feedback) – reactive is mandatory.
Delivering trainings that have been defined.
Being a Developer advocate (depending on area of influence, going to hackathon, recruitment days, conference, participating to Opensource).
About the ideal candidateA degree in Computer Science, or equivalent, or other significant industry experience.
Significant experience as Principal Engineer, Software Development Engineer and/or DevOps Engineer.
Has extensive knowledge about C++ and Python languages, Linux environment and Amadeus software development practices.
Has knowledge about Cloud technologies, in particular Kubernetes, OpenShift, Microsoft Azure.
