As a member of the Microsoft Threat Protection Research team, you’ll be joining a diverse global community of engineers, data scientists, security researchers, threat hunters, and program managers. We cultivate extensive knowledge of attacker tactics and leverage cutting-edge technology to combat them effectively. We are looking for a Principal Director of Technical Program Management to lead the Protection Programs and Customer Engagement team within Microsoft Threat Protection Research (MTP-R). This team is accountable for driving end-to-end protection programs across the MTP suite and reimagining how we engage with customers to deliver unified, impactful security experiences. This leader will play a critical role in shaping how we plan, execute, and evolve protection strategies across Microsoft Security. This role requires a deep understanding of what it means to lead large-scale, operationally intensive programs that support millions of customers—and the accountability that comes with it. The team balances the urgency of delivering protection outcomes with the discipline of long-term planning, customer empathy, and technical rigor. A successful leader in this role will bring clarity and cohesion to complex initiatives, foster cross-organizational collaboration, and drive a strategic vision that reflects the full breadth of Microsoft’s protection platform. Are you ready to take on this challenge? **Responsibilities** + Define and drive the vision, charter, and execution strategy for the Microsoft Threat Protection (MTP) Research organization, ensuring alignment with Defender and Sentinel goals. + Lead a globally distributed team of TPMs. + Oversee the delivery of cross-functional protection programs that span pre-breach and post-breach scenarios, ensuring end-to-end cohesion and measurable impact. + Partner with the Customer Engagement Lead to rebuild and scale our customer interaction model—ensuring every touchpoint reflects the full MTP suite and builds empathy, trust, and actionable insight. + Partner closely with engineering, research, product, and field teams to ensure protection programs are deeply integrated and responsive to customer needs. + Establish and evolve TPM best practices, metrics, and rhythms that drive clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement. + Embody our culture and values **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development + OR equivalent experience. + 5+ years people management experience. + 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. + Proven track record of leading large-scale, cross-functional programs in security, cloud, or enterprise software domains. + Experience managing globally distributed teams and driving alignment across complex organizational structures. + Background in cybersecurity, threat protection, or enterprise security platforms. + Demonstrates customer empathy and experience designing or leading customer engagement programs. + Ability to demonstrate technical acumen, understand and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. **Other Requirements:** + Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Additional or Preferred Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development + OR equivalent experience. + 6+ years people management experience. + 10+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. + 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos). + Experience working in a matrixed environment with research, engineering, and field teams. + Familiarity with Microsoft’s security ecosystem and Defender and Sentinel suite is a plus. Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
