We are seeking an experienced, versatile, and hands-on photonic production engineer to join our team and lead the development and productization of complex photonics systems like high power optical amplifiers, optical communication terminals, and lidar sources.  This role requires an established professional who can work independently on difficult and sometimes complex problems, while also providing guidance to junior team members.


Responsibilities:

Designing, developing, and productizing complex photonic systems and solutions that meet the specific needs of the program.  Conduct research, analyze data, and use technical knowledge to create innovative solutions and improve processes for program and customers.Work independently with limited supervision on challenging technical projectsManage projects and processes within the engineering departmentCoach and review the work of lower-level professionalsInfluence system design, solutions, and procedures while identifying and address potential issues or problemsDevelop technical solutions that may require collaboration and deep analysis troubleshooting issues and make necessary repairs to ensure proper system functioningCommunicate effectively with parties within and outside the job function ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standardsMake improvements to processes, systems, or productsWork towards achieving operational targets with significant impact on departmental resultsPotentially lead small technical teams


Qualifications:

Required: 

Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent experienceMinimum of 5 years of related work experienceAdvanced understanding and ability to apply technical concepts, principles, and theories in the job areaStrong problem-solving skills and ability to tackle difficult engineering challengesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExperience in mentoring or coaching junior team membersPractical knowledge of project management is a plus

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$78,700 - $165,300
