Requisition ID: req58174 Job Title: Paramedic Sector: Health Employment Category: Fixed Term Employment Type: Full-Time Open to Expatriates: No Location: Hagadera, Kenya Work Arrangement:In-person Job Description To provide immediate and efficient emergency care to critically ill or injured patients and ensure safe and effective transfer to designated medical facilities. This role includes support in coordinating ambulance dispatch, ensuring timely emergency response and smooth patient handovers. Key Responsibilities The paramedic is directly responsible to the Nursing Officer In Charge and will carry out the following duties: + Respond to emergency calls and provide on-site and enroute emergency medical care to patients of all ages, ensuring smooth transfer and handover to referral facilities. + Triage patients in waiting bays or during mass casualty situations, identifying and prioritizing acute cases. Deliver emergency and trauma care such as: + Airway management and assisted ventilation + Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) + Control of hemorrhage and treatment of shock + Bandaging wounds and immobilizing fractures/spinal injuries + Support in emergency childbirth + Management of general medical conditions in prehospital settings + Continuously assess and monitor patients during transfer, and provide interventions based on condition or under medical guidance. + Support clinical teams during procedures, consultations, ward rounds, and daily care activities. + Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, universal precautions, and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to. + Actively participate in major emergency responses, ensuring safety and coordinated care during mass casualty incidents. + Maintain up-to-date, clear, and comprehensive documentation of patient care provided. + Stay familiar with medical equipment used in emergency response and attend refresher trainings and CMEs as needed. + Ensure compliance with legal and ethical requirements during emergencies, including handling of deceased patients and safeguarding personal property. Reporting and communication + Maintain comprehensive records and legal documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and referrals. + Attend and support internal CMEs and skills-building sessions. + Submit timely HIS reports and participate in service audits and reviews. + Monitor and ensure optimal utilization of emergency supplies and maintain buffer stocks. Operations + Manage emergency calls with professionalism—gathering critical information, advising callers appropriately, and dispatching services efficiently. + Practice within the scope defined by Kenyan regulations and institutional policies. Key Result Areas + S/he will render emergency medical and or trauma care, to adults, children and infants based on assessment findings. + High-quality emergency care and safe patient transfers + Accurate documentation and communication + Teamwork during emergency response + Effective resource use and IPC compliance Desirable traits: + Strong communication and interpersonal skills + Critical thinking and problem-solving ability + Flexibility and resilience under pressure + Team-oriented and adaptable. Qualifications + Diploma or degree in Nursing or Emergency Medical Technology from a recognized institution. + Must be registered by a relevant regulatory body (e.g., NCK or KETC). + Training or certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) ishighly desirable. + Minimum of 2 years post-registration clinical experience in an acute care or emergency setting. + Prior experience in humanitarian or refugee contexts is an added advantage.
