National Gateways Manager

Job Purpose: To manage and develop the Gateways facilities, processes, and customs clearance services for all inbound and outbound movements within the country, to provide a safe and secure working environment and meet agreed cost and performance standards and targets. Contribute to the effective interface with DHL Aviation, especially relating to Customs clearance and Gateway activities\nA) PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES\n\n\nManage all operational Gateway activity for the Country, ensuring a safe and secure workplace and the achievement of legally compliant Customs import and export performance to DHL standards.\nEnsure that shipment sorting, containerization and pipeline visibility achieves agreed standards and levels of accuracy, including the checkpoints relating to shipments on-hold and other exceptions.\nIdentify options and implement-approved actions to optimize service and cost performance in the Customs clearance activities.\nMaintain regular and appropriate contact with Customs at operational levels and actively seek to identify and implement enhanced practices to improve DHL’s Customs clearance performance at import and export.\nProactively contribute to and support service and operational cost improvement initiatives through the continuous performance and productivity evaluation of the Gateway.\nPlan facilities with current and future business requirements.\nEstablish and maintain day-to-day contact with Aviation management, ensuring agreed actions are undertaken against key performance measures to integrate Country Operations and Aviation processes and networks.\nEnsure the effective implementation and deployment of Regional and Country programs, projects and initiatives, and the realization of agreed business benefits within the context of Gateway activities.\nManage external supplier performance with sufficient cost controls to meet agreed budget expectations.\nSet security operation standards, in association with the Security Manager, to prevent a breach of security and ensure that investigations are thorough and appropriate actions are taken.\nOptimize manpower and resources within the Gateway to ensure that target levels of productivity and performance are achieved and sustained within cost parameters.\nIdentify commercial opportunities and support the business acquisition process, where appropriate, both directly with customers and in conjunction with DHL sales personnel to satisfy customer demand for quality inbound service. \nEnsure that the team is provided with clear direction and performance standards and is staffed, trained, and motivated to meet set targets. Perform the LEADS process regularly for direct reports to manage individual performance and career aspirations.\nIn conjunction with Human Resources and Line trainers, ensure employees in Gateways are trained and developed to meet business and succession needs and ensure that adequate manpower is planned and in place.\nSupport the business acquisition process and provide after sales support as required to achieve revenue and profitability targets.\nAs security is a vital and integral part of our business and as such contributes to its overall success, line managers are responsible for compliance to DHL security policies and procedures.\n\n\nB) Nature & Scope\n1) Context:\n\n\nThe Gateway Manager has management responsibility for all Gateway facilities, processes, and Customs clearance services within the Country. He is responsible for the clearance of all shipments entering or leaving the country.\n\n\n \n2) Reporting Relationships:\n \n\n\nThe Gateway Manager reports to the Country Services Manager.\n\n\n \n3) Contacts\n \n\n\nInternal\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOperations colleagues\nCountry Senior Management Team\nRegional Gateways management\nDHL Aviation\nDHL International Hubs and Gateway\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExternal\n\nCustomers\nCustoms agencies and regulatory bodies\nCommercial air providers.\n\n\n\n\n \n4) Problem Solving:\n \n\n\nContinually resolve customer issues to maintain a high-performance customer-focused Gateway facility whilst ensuring that costs are managed effectively.\nReview Gateways performance, identifying and implementing actions to improve service and cost performance in a potentially rapidly changing operational environment.\nCreate and implement effective Gateways contingency plans to ensure the minimal impact to customers when normal service provision is not possible.\n\n\nC) Qualifications:\n\n\nBA Degree or equivalent\nProven business acumen\nExperience in implementing change.\nKnowledge of the local regulatory environment\nGood knowledge of project management\n\n\n\nD) Experience\n\n\nMin 5-7 years management experience in a service-related role, preferably in the Air Express Industry\nLogistics and Supply Chain Management: Understanding of logistics principles, supply chain dynamics, and transportation management.\nRegulatory Compliance: Familiarity with international trade regulations, customs laws, and import/export procedures.\nTechnology Proficiency: Knowledge of logistics software, tracking systems, and data analytics tools.\nMarket Trends: Awareness of industry trends, market conditions, and competitive landscape.\n\n\n\nE) Skills and Competencies:\n\n\nLeadership and Team Management: Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a collaborative environment.\nCommunication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, clients, and team members.\nProblem-Solving: Analytical skills to identify issues, develop solutions, and make data-driven decisions.\nProject Management: Competence in managing projects, timelines, and deliverables effectively.\nCustomer Focus: Commitment to understanding and meeting customer needs and expectations.\nAdaptability: Ability to adjust to changing circumstances and handle unexpected challenges.\nAttention to Detail: Precision in managing logistics processes and ensuring compliance with regulations.\nFinancial Acumen: Understanding of budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis related to logistics operations.\n\n\nF) Dimensions:\n\n\nPersonnel – Gateway FTEs for country\nFinancial – Gateway Cost budget, Support Country revenue targets\nProject – Implement country projects\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
