What Does the Internship Program Offer?

The Kentucky Department of Education is launching an innovative tutoring initiative to support academic recovery and student well-being in response to widening achievement gaps among students. The Kentucky Equity-Based Tutoring Program (KEBTP) pilot project, sponsored by Pearson. 

This face-to-face tutoring program is designed to strengthen literacy and math skills among selected early primary students, while also integrating social-emotional learning strategies to foster holistic development. The initiative aims to create meaningful, equitable learning opportunities that directly address the needs of underserved students.

As a participant in this program, interns will:

Participate in an initial program orientation, coordinated by Pearson. Complete general training, arranged by the school district. Contribute to a significant initiative aimed at promoting educational equity in Kentucky. Gain valuable, hands-on teaching experience within a supportive and dynamic classroom environment. Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced educators and industry professionals. Play a key role in fostering students' academic growth and personal development.

 Pay rate 

The salary for this internship is $20 per hour.

You will be eligible for accrued paid sick time per the policy guidelines. Please refer to the Sick Leave Policy.

 

Job Description 

We are seeking passionate, dedicated individuals—preferably pre- or post-practicum teachers—to serve as Equity-Based Primary Tutors. In this role, tutors will work directly with early primary grade students, delivering targeted instruction and interventions in reading and math while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide face-to-face tutoring sessions focused on literacy and math for early primary grade students. Implement data-informed instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs. Collaborate with school staff to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed. Support the social-emotional development of students through compassionate engagement and structured activities. Maintain accurate documentation and participate in program evaluation processes. Uphold a commitment to equity and educational access in all aspects of tutoring.

 

This is an onsite role, where tutors will be working in person at select schools within the Woodford County Public Schools, based in Versailles, KY. The position involves providing both academic and social-emotional support to young primary students.

The commitment is for 7 weeks, with working hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

 

Minimum Requirements

Pre-Service undergraduate students majoring in Education, ideally with pre- or post-practicum experience Strong reading and math skills, with a passion for sharing the love of learning. Excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for working with young children, and a respectful attitude. Creative and enthusiastic when delivering lesson plans and reading selected books. Attention to detail when handling paperwork and program documentation. Knowledge of literacy and math instruction strategies for early learners. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. Availability to work on-site during the Spring and/or Summer 2025 program period.
