Position Title:             Laboratory Supervisor/Senior Scientist         

Hours:                       Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 Hours/ Week

Summary of Duties:    Conduct laboratory maintenance, including equipment maintenance, service contracts, repair, and scheduling, ordering and stocking of laboratory supplies, and maintaining cell lines. Comply with EHS requirements and laboratory protocols, including preparing biological and chemical hazardous waste for removal. Ship and receive biological samples including clinical specimens. Serve as a local point of contact for laboratory emergencies. Develop protocols and training other scientists to operate laboratory instruments and data analysis tools. Maintain quality records associated with laboratories under your supervision and being available for inspections or internal audits. Perform various laboratory techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, ddPCR,DNA sequencing, immunoassays, and cell culture. Be a key contributor to projects utilizing automated platforms including the Siemens Healthineers’ Atellica Solution, VERSANT Molecular system, Illumina NextSeq1000, Quanterix HD-X, and others. Provide technical expertise in method development, especially for characterization of nucleic acids and proteins. Consult with cross-functional research teams.  Plan, lead, and execute research programs as a Senior Scientist within our Center for Innovation in Diagnostics.  Be responsible for proposing innovation projects, writing funding proposals, managing budgets and timelines, leading project teams, drafting technical protocols and reports, submitting invention disclosures, providing project updates to management, authoring peer-reviewed journal publications, presenting research at conferences, and maintaining internal and external collaborations. Collaborate on cross-functional research projects while working within budgets and timelines. Provide general support, training, and guidance to technical staff.  Develop instructional material for training purposes. Monitor laboratory expenses, operate within cost-center and project budget constraints, and maintain accurate records. Enforce lab policies and procedures.  Act as a liaison with other site functions on behalf of the head of the department.

Qualifications:             The position requires a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field and four (4) years of experience in the job offered or acceptable alternate occupation. Position requires experience with the following: Experience in operation and care of a wide array of analytical instrumentation. Experience developing automated molecular tests and immunoassays. Laboratory skills including knowledge of molecular biology techniques, PCR amplification, DNA sequencing, immunoassays, bioinformatics, statistics and scientific programming (e.g. R, Python).  Hands-on experience with the Atellica Solution, VERSANT Molecular System, Illumina DNA sequencers, and Quanterix SIMOA technology platform. Research grant and contract management experience.
