International Subject Partner - English

JOB PURPOSE 

Work with our International Regional Development Managers to drive international growth through subject switches and support key retention activity in English

To provide training for the Regional Development Managers on the advantages of our qualifications

To be the subject matter expert providing insight to other areas of the business, such as the courseware development team, to improve our overall offer.

As a public face of Pearson’s English portfolio, provide first-class and innovative support to our international customers. 

Maintain a deep and current understanding of international customer needs and international market dynamics in English, to ensure that customer needs are proactively identified. 

Build collaborative relationships with international teachers and practitioners. 

Implement innovative customer communication and support strategies that effectively and comprehensively support teachers in the delivery of our English portfolio. 

Deliver best-in-class customer experience through the events, free surround and additional services that we provide at launch and throughout the lifecycle, continually improving that experience in English.   

Inform the overall strategy for growth and retention of our English qualifications portfolio, working alongside the International Product Manager to strengthen our proposition. 

Provide deep subject expertise in support of all accountabilities and building the strength of our subject leadership, strategy and implementation.  

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

1. Provide first-class customer support for international teachers and learners 

Support sales team with winning business throughout the customer journey  

Presenting, promoting, and selling our products/services through a high volume of online and face-to-face meetings with customers.  

Leading subject switch conversations with educational leaders, articulating key benefits of our products and services aligned to individual customer needs  

Establish, develop, and maintain deep customer relationships through expert subject knowledge and guidance  

When supporting customers, understand and address needs and concerns, handle objections and direct to meaningful support 

Utilise research of the subject environment to enhance our offer and services to customers and to build competitive advantage e.g. up to date and relevant competitor information 

Track, analyse and respond to competitor activity.

2. Drive thought leadership across Pearson and throughout English sector 

Actively engage in policy issues, providing evidence-based thought pieces on both the current and future of the English sector that align with Pearson’s priorities 

Work effectively in virtual teams with colleagues across Pearson to ensure a positive working culture, in support of Pearson Schools strategy both in the UK and internationally 

3. Produce extensive assessment support for customers 

Produce high quality assessment support materials including practice papers and topic tests that support teachers in preparing learners for assessments. 

Produce innovative teaching and assessment resources/support that meet the needs of teachers and learners. 

Conduct regular diagnostics of learner performance from each examination series and work with the Product Manager to inform future resources and support across the English team working across the virtual teams 

Produce, deliver and review innovative and insightful training and feedback to teachers and key stakeholders. 

Champion a ‘Customer First’ culture within the business, ensuring that all decisions are made with reference to the needs of our international customers and learners. 

4. Maintain and enhance subject and market insight  

Maintain and enhance an in-depth evidence based understanding of learner needs in English through a continuous programme of research with teachers and stakeholders. 

Maintain and enhance an in-depth evidence based understanding of International teacher/centre needs and behaviours in each subject. 

Maintain and enhance relationships with subject stakeholders throughout the life of a qualification, to support qualification developments and annual reviews through the product lifecycle 

Maintain and enhance an in-depth understanding of best practice (pedagogy, assessment) at subject level. 

5. Supporting teachers and learners through the lifecycle 

Lead subject level work with colleagues across the business to instigate a step-change in the customer experience of our general qualifications, to deliver consistently high satisfaction and retention levels, and to systematically attract new business 

Anticipate and meet customer needs better than our competitors, including oversight of high-quality free surround and support services at launch and throughout the lifecycle  

Support lead for higher education or local international regulators with any subject-specific requirements 

EXPERIENCE 

Essential 

Experience of leading and influencing, including experience of training teachers. 

Experience of working within education sector (ideally internationally).  

Understanding of education assessment, practice and policy.  

Knowledge of current education practice and policy  

Have strong subject understanding 

Teaching experience  

Experience of developing and implementing innovative, effective, winning strategies. 

Experience of working effectively in a complex matrix. 

Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders.  

Mastery of assessment techniques and principles.
