Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW
The role of the Serverless Backend Engineer is responsible for understanding requirements and building solutions under a serverless architecture model. The Serverless Backend Engineer reports directly to the Product Owner and the Chapter Leader.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Build solutions from requirements received from product owner. Be able to work in agile environment. Able to build POC solutions and demonstrate/present. Maintain a stable server with zero downtime Develop tools and applications by producing clean, code Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting Review and debug code Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle Mentor junior engineers Collaborate with team to brainstorm and create new products Be able to report on their work using agile tools such as JIRA. Be able to elaborate and document their work in confluence. Be communicative and proactive.ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
Relevant University Degree and Professional Qualification.Experience
AWS components such as Lambda, SQS , Dynamo DB AWS API Gateway Terraform Python 3.9 Pytest Knowledge of Rest API integrations Openapi, swagger GitHub actions for CI CD Docker and Docker compose Makefile Apache velocity language Proven experience as a Back-end developerThe appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit.

Develop existing applications and contribute to development of new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Develop new routine applications to meet customer requirements.
Applications Software MaintenanceMonitor, identify, and correct more complex software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.
Design and ConceptualizationProduce multiple concepts and prototypes to design digital products/services.
Technical Developments RecommendationDiscuss and recommend technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/applications software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.
Application Software Road MapContribute to and maintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.
Faults Diagnosis and CorrectionProvide fault isolation and resolution to limit and address issues promptly.
DocumentationCreate and maintain complex technical and/or user documentation to a high standard.
Testing Information Technology (IT) PerformanceDesign and perform website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues.
Operational ComplianceMaintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.
Information SecurityImplement required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, and provide input on their design, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.
Horizon ScanningExplore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.
Data Collection and AnalysisConduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.
Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be"Document "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.
Technical Database SupportDesign distribution of basic database resources and provide physical modeling and design services to tune database applications for optimum performance.
