The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Electrophysiology medical device division supporting both new product introduction and post market product, as well as line expansions. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

Our Plymouth location is seeking a high caliber, motivated, self-driven leader to join our manufacturing engineering team for ablation catheter manufacturing in Abbott’s Electrophysiology business unit. Individuals in this role will work on supporting the operations team working with assemblers mapping out processes, determining capacity and process issues, as well as identifying opportunities to boost productivity and bring the tools and behaviors of our operating system to the production floor with rigor. Additionally, this position will manage projects aimed towards increasing capacity and improving flow in manufacturing processes, considering tooling, and fixtures to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality as well as focus to implement industrial lean principles (layout and flow optimization, SPC implementations) on new and existing processes. This role offers a great opportunity for any passionate individual that enjoys DMAIC problem solving, coaching and facilitating Kaizens and a collaborative work environment. This individual will be able to make a mark on the organization as a leader, while working on state-of-the-art product. This role directly impacts the success of a new product launch and ramp and in turn, will be able to make a significant P&L impact in the organization. 

What You’ll Work On

Utilize tools like DMAIC, Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processes.

Understand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, SPC, Lean, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.

Provides input for identification and planning of department goals and budget, development, standardization and implementation of initiatives intended to improve the quality, cost and delivery performance of Division Operations.

In conjunction with the Value Stream teams, supports productivity, quality, process efficiency, space utilization, standardization and lead time improvement efforts.

Identifies opportunities and supports the incorporation of appropriate Lean tool usage such as 5S, time study, line balancing, standard work and material flow into the daily functions of the Value Stream teams.

Coaches and facilitates presenting to all levels of the organization.

Collaborates with cross functional teams as required.

Provides input into departmental budgeting processes as required.

Understands work environment issues (i.e. OSHA regulations, etc.) and collaborates with EHS partners to ensure a safe work environment.

Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

 Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical or related Engineering area

3 + years Manufacturing/Industrial or Project engineering experience required.  

Preferred Qualifications

Previous regulated manufacturing environment experience preferred.

Yellow or Green Belt

Has worked with performance system elements such as Problem Solving, Strategy Activation, Value Stream Analysis, Tier and Policy Deployment, Gemba Management, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, Line Balancing and Digital Tools.

The base pay for this position is $66,700.00 – $133,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
