Head of Legal Affairs, Customer Unit UK & Ireland

Ericsson is recruiting an experienced legal leader (15 PQE minimum) with broad international experience and agility to work at a senior level across the spectrum of complex commercial, corporate, regulatory, data protection, competition, intellectual property, sanctions/trade control legal issues and dispute resolution for the UK and Ireland. The role will ensure that the purpose and objectives of the Ericsson Group, Market Areas, Group Function Legal Affairs & Compliance (“GFLA”) and the UK and Ireland CU (UK&I) are fulfilled.


This includes leading and/or providing senior partnership to legal and business teams, including across high-value and complex customer sale and sourcing contracts, strategic partnerships, corporate transactions/M&A activity, corporate governance and advisory matters and R&D activity. You will drive and assist on highly complex or unusual business matters applying advanced critical thinking.


This role requires proven integrity and wide-ranging capability of negotiating with customers and suppliers in the ICT sector, in a manner that contributes to the establishment of long-term partnerships whilst also protecting the interests of Ericsson. The individual will have extensive and recognised leadership experience and skills, very good business understanding and awareness and the ability to support and work with senior Ericsson managers in the CU and the rest of Ericsson. You will lead a team of five legal counsel.


The Head of Legal Affairs, UK&I will report to the Head of Legal Affairs for the Europe, Middle East & Africa Market Area with a dotted line into the CEO, UK&I and will sit on the leadership team of the UK&I business. This position will be based in Reading and travel is expected.

What you will do: Be the senior legal lead on all legal matters for CU UK&I, including complex commercial, corporate (including company secretarial responsibility for UK&I legal entities), regulatory, data privacy, competition, intellectual property, sanctions/trade control legal issues and dispute resolution. Partner with team members across Ericsson’s global legal and compliance team - both specialist teams and those partnering with business units / regions – and top tier legal counsel to develop and execute creative legal and business solutions that enable delivery of Ericsson’s business strategy.You will be a member of, and key contributor to, the CU UK&I and the Europe, Middle East & Africa Legal leadership teams and work in close partnership with the relevant GFLA Leadership Team members and the relevant MA/BA/Central Functions to drive forward key strategic initiatives and opportunities.Provide trusted counsel to leaders across the UK&I CU and the Market Area, working directly with members of the Executive Team/MA/BA leadership teams.Lead a team of five legal counsel and other professionals responsible for delivering legal services to CU UK&I. You will build capability across the legal and compliance team. As a senior leader within GFLA, you will play a key role supporting the development of skills capability and effectiveness of the function (and group more generally), including through sharing knowledge, best-practice, actively contributing to learning initiatives in the function, alongside fostering an inclusive team environment where diverse talent thrives.Ensure that corporate, Market Area, GFLA and other Ericsson policies, directives and instruction are fulfilled. Prepare and assist with CU UK&I related compliance and corporate governance activities, including providing legal and risk reporting and the preparation and establishment of internal policies, directives and instructions as required.Develop appropriate and more efficient methods and tools for providing legal support and generally improve quality of and reduce costs for legal servicesYou will bring: Approximately 15+ years of broad complex commercial, operational and corporate legal experience. You will be regarded as an authority and a true expert (internally as well as externally) within the relevant legal areas.Experience working at publicly listed multinational companies operating in diverse geographies.Demonstrated ability to think strategically and independently handle and manage complex and sensitive matters, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will have wide ranging experience of negotiating complex and high-value (+£100m) matters with customers and suppliers in the ICT sector in challenging circumstances and timeframes.Excellent business and financial awareness, with an ability to translate Ericsson’s visions/objectives at an operational level.Strong judgement and maturity and proven experience in crisis, high stakes situations.  Strong communication, writing and presentation skills.Highly collaborative and a strong ability to build relationships and engage a broad range of stakeholders – both internal and external (including crucially with key customers) to the organisation.Proactive, strong problem-solving and analytical skills - ability to navigate ambiguity effectively, gathering inputs from multiple stakeholders and/or diverse perspectives and integrate these into a clear and focused strategy.Highest levels of integrity, intellectual agility and an ability to quickly get up to speed across new subject matter and business areas.Strong leadership, negotiation and influence skills with an ability and track record in driving positive change.Alignment to Ericsson's leadership principles, you are a leader who creates clarity, develops people, and delivers results.
