Head - Financial Control - Maritime/Shipping Firm

My Client is fast-growing shipping organisation, with headquarters in Dubai and offices in Asia and MENA. They are engaged in transportation of crude and petroleum products.

Role: Head of Financial Control

Location: Dubai

Department: Finance

Position Overview:

The Head of Financial Control will be responsible for overseeing and managing the company's financial control processes, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial activities within the organization. This role requires an experienced and detail-oriented leader with a strong background in financial management, preferably within the shipping or maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, industry regulations, and internal policies.

- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and implement controls to safeguard company assets.

- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads to align financial plans with the company's strategic objectives.

- Manage cash flow, including overseeing short-term cash forecasting, working capital optimization, and ensuring liquidity and operational efficiency.

- Ensure compliance with all relevant local and international accounting standards and tax regulations, including IFRS and maritime-specific tax considerations.

- Lead the preparation of tax returns and liaise with external tax advisors and authorities as required.

- Lead and mentor the financial control team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and high performance.

- Stay up to date with industry regulations, shipping financial practices, and global accounting standards.

- Ensure financial processes align with the specific operational and regulatory requirements of the maritime and shipping industry, particularly for tanker operations.

Qualifications and Skills: - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required).

Professional qualification (e.g., CPA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) (preferred).

Experience:

 

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial control or accounting roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.

- Significant experience in the maritime or shipping industry, preferably with expertise in tanker operations

- Proven track record of managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls in complex international environments.

Skills & Knowledge:

- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS) and regulatory compliance, especially within the shipping or transportation sector.

- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.

- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

- Strong knowledge of financial systems and software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).

- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.

- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

- Knowledge of maritime-specific accounting practices, such as those related to chartering, shipping operations, and tanker fleet management.

- Experience with risk management and financial forecasting in a global shipping environment.
