Job description
As an Experienced Researcher at Networks you will perform or drive complex research tasks and participate in advanced research projects, developing new concepts and technologies for current and future mobile networks. This includes functions and features for the evolution of 5G Advanced and 6G, especially architectural aspects, network services, management/automation solutions, service and network exposures and related APIs. The targeted network domains are radio access and core networks in indoor and outdoor networks, public and non-public (private) networks and vertical domains such as smart manufacturing. You will become a member of Ericsson Research, the research organization within Ericsson, and will report to a research manager. 


We collaborate with international research teams in which continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing are part of the daily work! Your work will include concept development, design, analysis, and prototype implementation of various network solutions, as well as mechanisms and processes to enhance future mobile systems. The research will be carried out in shorter or longer-term projects, in extensive collaboration with different Ericsson units and external partners such as leading universities, customers or other partners, targeting competitive future network products and solutions for Ericsson. Your research results will be protected by patents and delivered in the form of technical reports, standard contributions, academic papers, white papers, and proof of concepts. You may be participating in activities in relation with international standards mainly in bodies like 3GPP and ORAN; and possibly in other bodies like ETSI NFV/ZSM, IEEE and ITU-T.
The successful candidate for this role will be working in an international team of world-class researchers, with diverse backgrounds and experiences in mobile communication, including the key authorities and thought leaders globally, who are contributing to standardize mobile technologies used by billions of people worldwide. What you will Bring

PhD degree, PhD candidate, or equivalent from top tier universities in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or similar technical fields;

             - Candidates from top tier universities having a Master of Science degree with relevant experience in Machine Learning and Data Science with telecom background are also eligible to apply.

Domain knowledge in telecommunication systems and familiarity with the key enablers of 6G.Consistent record of good knowledge and/or hands-on experience in developing software and/or performing applied research on one or more of the following fields preferably also applying Machine Learning or AI techniques to tackle problems in wireless communications;

             - Network and service management, and automation for 5G and beyond

             - RAN, core network, and network automation architectures

             - Mobile network functions and services, exposure and interactions with users and/or applications

             - Network interfaces, API management

             - Industrial and vertical integration, services and exposures for 5G and beyond

Programming background in Matlab, Python, C++ or Java, and experience in computer simulationsExperience in AI/ML applied to communication system algorithm optimization.Strong analytical skills, a positive mindset, and ability of finding innovative solutions to complex problems.Rich in initiative, creative, and with strong personal drive, and commitment.Excited to work in an environment where you cooperate closely in a diverse team, together striving to fulfil common targets according to set strategies.The candidate must be able to communicate very well in English, both in written and oral form.Can communicate with people and find it easy to convey your knowledge/findings to others.


What you will do:

A fundamental understanding of the principles of mobile telecommunication networks, network control, automation and management. A fundamental understanding of past, current, and emerging mobile network system topics including algorithms, architectures, solutions, network functions, interfaces, and communication protocols.Experience of working with open platforms (e.g., ONAP, O-RAN, OSM)RAN and management technologies and principles for 5G and beyond.Hands-on experience in telecommunication and network domain (implementation, testing, configuration, deployment)Machine learning, AI applied to communication and network architecture;Experience in deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch, TensorFlow, Keras.Experience in data driven modeling/evaluation and working with large data sets.Experience in EU funded research projects, proposal writing, participating, and coordinating in multi-party international projects with grants.Knowledge and experience in intellectual property rights and patent application filing.Knowledge and experience in technical standardization work.

            - Familiarity with 3GPP, ETSI ZSM or Open RAN (O-RAN) standards is a plus

Proven track record as a Networks researcher or ML/AI researcher in private sector, academia, or another research organization is a plus.For senior roles, publications on related subjects in high quality journals or conferences, patents, standardization contributions and/or open-source software is a plus.
