What You'll Do

The BCG Henderson Institute, Boston Consulting Group’s think tank, is looking for an experienced Economist (Focus: Europe) to join the Center for Macroeconomics in New York, working alongside BCG’s Chief Economist and Managing Director and Partner, and BCG’s Senior Economist.

The BCG Center for Macroeconomics publishes technical research for clients, contributes op-eds and commentary to leading business publications, and advises senior business leaders on macroeconomic risk ongoingly. The Economist (Focus: Europe) will be a critical part of the team, helping the team establish consistent coverage of European economies while contributing to the team’s overall activities.

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic leader with extensive experience in publishing macroeconomic thought leadership built upon a advanced understanding of global and specifically European macroeconomics. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of producing high-impact insights on European macroeconomics, influencing and communicating with senior stakeholders, and shaping thought leadership in the macroeconomic landscape. They will have developed this expertise within the asset management industry, an investment bank, a multilateral organization, a top-tier think tank, or a leading professional services firm. A deep understanding of global macroeconomic trends, current economic debates, and an interest in economic history is a must.

 

YOU’RE GOOD AT:

In partnership with the Managing Director & Partner (MDP) and Senior Economist, develop and execute the firm’s macroeconomic research priorities, ensuring Europe’s economic landscape is fully integrated into the global strategy of the Center for Macroeconomics (CME)Analyzing key economic, monetary, and fiscal developments across European markets, identifying their strategic implications for global clients and business leadersTranslating complex macroeconomic data into clear, actionable insights, engaging with C-suite leaders, policymakers, and industry forums across EuropeActing as a trusted macroeconomic advisor, providing high-level counsel to senior executives, investment teams, and external stakeholdersIndependently designing, building, and refining sophisticated macroeconomic analyses and scenarios that inform strategic business decisionsLeveraging advanced quantitative analysis and data visualization to develop unique perspectives on economic risks, market opportunities, and policy implicationsTaking full ownership and drive key research initiatives, ensuring that European macroeconomic perspectives are effectively integrated into the firm’s global strategyPartnering with senior leadership across multiple business units to integrate macroeconomic insights with a European angle into broader corporate strategies

What You'll Bring

Minimum bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Economics from a top-tier institutionMinimum of 8-10 years in macroeconomic research, strategy, or advisory roles within financial services, consulting, or policy institutions with substantial experience in the European markets a mustDeep understanding of international macroeconomics particularly implications from and for Europe, geopolitical risks, policy shifts, and their strategic business implicationsDemonstrated ability to shape strategic research agendas independently and provide macro-level advisory at the highest levelsAbility to articulate economic insights and strategic implications effectively to senior executives, investment committees, and board members – communicating well in visual, written, and spoken formHave a demonstrated history of contributing to and/or authoring thought leadership on European topicsStrong expertise in working with macroeconomic databases (Haver, Bloomberg) and strong knowledge of European macro data

Who You'll Work With

You will report to BCG’s Chief Economist and Managing Director and Partner, based in New York as part of the BCG Henderson Institute’s Center for Macroeconomics.

Base Salary Compensation for New York City-based employees is below:

Base salary between $170,000.00 - $210,000; placement within this range will vary based on experience and skill level
