The Position
The Director of Process Chemistry will lead and oversee the strategic development and scale-up of chemical processes for the production of small molecules, oligonucleotide products produced in liquid phase, and APIs. This role will be a highly experienced leader, directing the implementation of innovative and sustainable synthesis methodologies and developing a team of process chemists and engineers to reach the strategic vision of the next generation oligonucleotide manufacturing. This role also involves supporting regulatory filings and ensuring efficient utilization of laboratory and pilot plant facilities. Additionally, the Director will manage the administration and operational management of a kilo lab, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, efficient workflow, and maintenance of equipment.

This position reports to Senior Director, Chemical Development.
Essential Functions
Direct the development and scale-up of small molecules, liquid phase oligonucleotide processes, and APIs Develop and execute strategic plans for kilo lab operations Implement novel large scale manufacturing technologies including oligonucleotide ligation and liquid phase chemical and enzymatic methods of production of oligonucleotides Develop, mentor, and lead a team of process chemists and engineers to ensure high performance and innovation Oversee the safe and efficient utilization of a kilo lab pilot facility, ensuring compliance with safety standards and maximizing productivity Provide strategic support for regulatory filings, ensuring that all processes and documentation meet regulatory requirements and standards Support the overall Chemical Development team goals with accurate budget and staff projections Maintain the highest level of scientific rigor and professionalism within our organization

Development Of People
Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
A PhD in Chemistry, Chemical/Biological Engineering, or related sciences with 9+ years of relevant experience, or MS in Chemistry, Chemical/Biological Engineering, or related sciences with 11+ years of relevant experience required 8+ years of leadership experience required Proven track record of success in process chemistry with demonstrated expertise in the optimization and scale up of small molecules or solution phase production of peptides/oligonucleotides Proven ability to assemble, lead and mentor a team of chemists and engineers Strong strategic thinking and project management skills Experience with regulatory filings and compliance Excellent research skills: ability to identify and define problems, develop hypotheses, and develop and execute plans to solve problems Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with development and characterization of biocatalytic processes CMO management experience Knowledge of kilo lab operations and pilot facility management
The base compensation range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
