Director Data Engineering

Overview:
Mastercard's Marketing Technology Solutions team is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data and analytics solutions that support Mastercard's B2B marketing initiatives. This role is key in building the data environment and integrations that will power advanced omni-channel marketing campaigns.
As part of a small, collaborative team, you will work with large-scale data sets to unlock the value of big data across the global marketing team.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with a strong background in data engineering, a passion for building scalable solutions, and a commitment to driving business impact.

Role:
•\tBuild and lead a team based in Bogota, Columbia to build Mastercard’s global marketing data platform to enable real time analytics and customer segmentation.
•\tDrive the evolution of data-driven marketing at Mastercard with a strong emphasis on data engineering and data science, ensuring impactful advancements in data quality, scalability, and efficiency.
•\tDevelop and fine-tune methods and algorithms to generate precise, high-quality data at scale, including the creation and maintenance of feature stores, analytical stores and curated datasets for enhanced data integrity and usability.
•\tSolve complex data challenges involving multi-layered data sets though the building of data pipelines, libraries, and frameworks.
•\tProvide support for deployed data applications and analytical models, identifying data issues and guiding resolutions.
•\tEnsure proper data governance policies are followed by implementing or validating data lineage, quality checks, classification, etc.
•\tIntegrate diverse data sources, including real-time, streaming, batch, and API-based data, to enrich platform insights and drive data-driven decision-making.
•\tExperiment with new tools to streamline the development, testing, deployment, and running of our data pipelines.
•\tCollaborate with cross-functional teams to determine priority problems and innovative solutions.
•\tDevelop and enforce best practices for data engineering, including coding standards, code reviews, and documentation.
•\tEnsure data security and privacy compliance, implementing measures to protect sensitive data.

All About You:
•\tExtensive, hands-on experience in Data Engineering, with a strong track record of delivering end-to-end data warehouse solutions in Big Data environments.
•\tProven leadership experience in managing, mentoring, and scaling high-performing data engineering teams.
•\tDemonstrated success in building and deploying production-grade, data-driven applications and large-scale data processing workflows and pipelines.
•\tDeep proficiency in programming languages and frameworks such as Python, Java, or Scala, as well as in distributed data processing tools including Databricks, Apache Spark, and Apache Kafka.
•\tExperience designing and managing data orchestration workflows using tools like Apache NiFi, Apache Airflow, or similar platforms to automate and optimize data pipelines.
•\tExpertise in performance tuning for databases, database schemas, complex SQL queries, ETL jobs, and supporting scripts.
•\tFamiliarity with Agile development methodologies and a strong understanding of iterative, collaborative engineering practices.
•\tExperience building and deploying scalable machine learning systems and pipelines, including all phases—data ingestion, feature engineering, model development, tuning, evaluation, monitoring, and delivery.
•\tSkilled in developing cloud-native data solutions, particularly using platforms like AWS and Databricks.
•\tExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of diagnosing complex data challenges and delivering actionable, scalable solutions.
•\tStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams, and effectively engage stakeholders.
•\tBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
