ABOUT US: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
This internship is a key role within our Digital Literacy and Skills Program. The intern will be responsible for outreach and intake processes to identify individuals who qualify for the program’s services. This includes engaging with both our existing client base and the broader community we serve, explaining the program, answering questions, and assisting with enrollment. By supporting our mission to bridge the digital divide and empower underserved communities, the intern will help ensure that eligible participants have access to essential digital literacy resources and skills training. This role is crucial to expanding the reach and impact of our program, enabling individuals to gain the skills necessary for personal, educational, and professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The volunteer/intern will perform a variety of important tasks to support the program’s outreach and intake efforts, including:
Outreach to Community Members: Actively engage with the community to identify individuals who may qualify for the program. This may involve outreach via phone, email, in-person events, or community meetings.
Conduct Program Intake: Assess and verify eligibility for program participation by reviewing individuals' needs and confirming they meet the criteria.
Program Explanation and Enrollment: Clearly explain the benefits and objectives of the program to potential participants, assisting them with the enrollment process.
Maintain Participant Records: Accurately input participant information into the program’s database and maintain up-to-date records.
Attend Training and Meetings: Participate in regular training sessions and team meetings to stay informed about program updates, best practices, and community resources.
Specific Project Work: Depending on program needs, interns may be tasked with assisting in creating outreach materials or supporting the development of new community engagement strategies.

OPPORTUNITY OUTCOMES:
Develop communication and outreach skills: Interns will refine their ability to communicate with diverse populations, tailoring messaging to different needs and languages.
Gain experience in nonprofit operations: This role offers hands-on experience in client services, community outreach, and enrollment procedures in a nonprofit environment.
Learn about digital literacy and skills programs: Interns will gain insight into the importance of digital literacy, and how such programs contribute to social equity and inclusion, while working directly with individuals in need.

REQUIREMENTS:
Language Skills: A second language is strongly preferred, with preference given to Pashto, Russian, Ukrainian, or Armenian speakers. Spanish, Farsi and Dari are also beneficial in this position. This is essential to effectively communicate with the diverse population we serve.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to present information clearly and compassionately to people from various backgrounds.
Organizational Skills: Solid organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of computers and digital tools, such as data entry software, Microsoft Office, or Google Suite. Experience with database management is a plus.
Cultural Sensitivity: The ability to interact with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in a respectful and professional manner.
