PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS) enables SAP Lines of Business and customers to easily enter the world of Big Data. We are looking for a Development Manager eager to learn and contribute to the world of Big Data.

 

A small disclaimer: we don’t work as data scientists analyzing or extracting data, but we build a platform that allows this.

 

THE PRODUCT

 

The major goal of BDFS is to enable SAP Lines of Business (LoB’s) and customers to enter the world of big data easily. To achieve that objective, we’re delivering Apache Spark as a service, a multi-language engine for executing data engineering, data science, and machine learning on single-node machines or clusters (Kubernetes in our case). We’re enabling data to be consumed from multiple hyperscaler agnostic data sources using the Delta Sharing communication protocol on top of the HANA Data Lake File Service (HDLFS), an SAP managed cloud object storage that allows storage and consumption of data without multiple layers of ETL (Extract Transform and Load) systems and intermediary data storages (Lakehouse architecture).

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

 

As a Development Manager, you will be responsible for a Scrum team, according to the HPOM way of working. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a passion for fostering team growth and product excellence. This role requires a balanced focus on managing people and driving engineering processes to deliver high-quality, scalable, and maintainable products.

 

As a Technical Lead you will be responsible for:

Assume full ownership of development and engineering progress, ensuring alignment, accountability, and the successful delivery of products.

Provide expert technical guidance and implement best practices to enhance product development processes.

Lead with a hands-on approach while leveraging deep technical expertise to inspire, guide, and support the team.

Actively facilitate innovative solutions for complex technical problems, encouraging collaboration and proactive problem-solving.

Drive the development of secure, robust, scalable, and maintainable software, ensuring adherence to quality assurance processes and product standards.

Mentor engineering team members, cultivating a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.

As a People Manager you will be responsible for:• Manage and develop individuals and teams, creating an environment that encourages growth both personally and professionally.

Build and nurture a high-performing team, emphasizing engineering excellence and fostering positive social interactions.

Lead initiatives for hiring top talent from both within and outside the organization and ensure their seamless integration into the team.

Set clear, achievable goals with team members, provide inspiration and support to achieve those goals, and evaluate performance transparently and fairly.

Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement, offering regular coaching and feedback to aid personal and professional development.

Support team members in setting ambitious development goals and work cross-functionally to address broader organizational topics.

Drive and actively engage in the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP), ensuring ongoing development and refinement of processes.

As a management stakeholder, contribute to creating sustainable, high-quality components that seamlessly integrate into our products.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

 

Required skills

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an IT related field.

Proven experience as a Development Manager or in a similar leadership role within a technical environment.

Strong technical background with experience in software development and engineering, specially cloud development.

Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and growing high-performing teams.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a passion for fostering a collaborative, innovative work environment.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts and foster relationships across all levels of the organization.

MEET YOUR TEAM

 

You will work with your team on the SAP HANA Cloud & Datalakehouse/Big Data Fabric Services. This product helps our customers access data from anywhere. The Big Data Fabric Services team is responsible for:

Extend and complete the SAP Data Platform with big data technologies to support different SAP Lines of Business.

Leverage Apache Spark and Object store technology to provide scalable and cost-effective computing and storage services for big data ingestion, processing, and sharing.

Integrate into SAP BTP and HANA Cloud & Data Lakehouse to offer unified development and deployment experience for different SAP Lines of Business.

Assure multi-tenancy and secure data processing.
