Employee Contract Type:
Local - Fixed Term Employee (Fixed Term)Job Description:
The Community Development Facilitator (CDF) position will be part of the team responsible for implementing the GAVI Alliance-funded Immunization project in the Solomon Islands. The project will be implemented for 12 months in 10 communities (2 in Makira, 2 in Guadalcanal, 2 in Central Islands, 2 in Malaita and 2 in Honiara). These communities are identified through MHMS reports which have low Immunization rates but have high populations. The project will use advocacy tools to convey key health messages to the communities. The CDF is expected to lead the formation and capacity-building of Village Health committees and facilitate their formation in each community. The CDF is expected to liaise closely with the nurse in charge in each Rural Health center to make Immunization awareness plans and assist in health promotions.
The CDF will assist in designing activities that encourage the participation of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in communities. This will ensure meaningful full participation and contribute to the project's plans and outcomes.
WV will identify practical ways to mainstream gender in the project and will work with established village health committees in target communities, which all have at least 60% female membership, to ensure women and their concerns are fully incorporated in project activities. Government partners include the Ministry of Health and medical services with provincial counterparts, village health committees, and community leadership will also assist in the implementation.
The key purpose of the CDF position is to organize and mobilize the target communities to ensure sustainable impact and ownership of project interventions, as well as to be the direct implementer and information gathered for project activities in the communities. The position will be based in the CPO and spent in the Area Program 75% of time in communities. The CDF may at times perform duties outside of the tasks specified in the JD. The CDF is also expected to commit to the Biblical principle of “walking an extra mile”; sacrificing time for community work without further reward may be required at times.
