The UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme aims to improve the effectiveness of key institutions (public, private, and civil society) in partner countries so that they can deliver accelerated emission reductions and raise the ambition of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) targets. Through its focus on NDCs, the programme supports the UK’s COP26 efforts that aim to review NDC commitments and strengthen ambition.
As part of our work in Peru, we are seeking a Climate Policy Advisor to work closely with the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and the JDI Secretariat to advise on the implementation of REDD+ policies and strategies.
The Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) was signed in 2014 by the Governments of Norway, Germany, and Peru, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through deforestation and forest degradation while fostering sustainable development in Peru. In 2021, an addendum expanded the JDI partnership, including the United Kingdom and the United States. The updated implementation plan for the period 2021-2025 is currently underway, with the Global Operational Plan 2024-2025 in progress.
The successful candidate will support efforts to achieve results-based payments under the JDI implementation plan and strengthen multi-sectoral engagement in the climate change agenda. This role is vital to advancing Peru’s progress in REDD+ implementation, with an emphasis on enhancing governance, coordinating across various ministries, and fostering stakeholder collaboration.
