Compelling Channel Development strategy
The Channel Development Manager – Colmados DR owns the strategic development of main consumer and category initiatives to be deployed on the Colmados (On Trade and Off Trade) channel along the year in main markets across the region. This role must be supported through deep customer understanding and insight generation to champion successful strategic and profitable plans.
The Channel Development Manager – Colmados DR works in alliance with different collaborators along the End-to-End Cycle Planning process in CCA & DR: Marketing (Brand Manager and CP), Promo & Pack Manager, E-Commerce Manager, CP&A Managers, Commercial teams (including Distributors), E2E Commercial Planning Manager and RGM (Growth), Channel Activation executives.
The Caribbean and Central America (CCA) market is a Diageo business unit that generates approx. £300m NSV. CCA is the most profitable market in LAC both in terms of absolute operating profit and margin. 90% of our NSV is USD invoiced.
CCA is a very dynamic market with many opportunities. Our geographical footprint covers 37 countries, where different languages are spoken and we have a population of 80m, 52m of whom are LDA+. Our model is a distributor based RTC with over 40 partners. We also handle several co-packing partnerships throughout the region, and Panama is home to our innovation technology centre and principal warehousing operations.
The Scotch category accounts for approx. 70% of Total NSV, predominantly playing in the Premium and Super Premium segments; Diageo share of market in Scotch varies from 45% to 75% across the region – making us the number one player.
Dominican Republic is a market set up for growth as it has had the highest 10yr GDP CAGR growth in the LAC region, combined with the strongest GDP growth expectation towards 2030
Dominican Republic is a market of approximately $120m NSV, and expected to grow to $200m
Decision Making:
Responsible for the creation and approval of the annual Trade Strategy for the Colmados channel in DR (On and Off Trade).
Responsible for the creation and approval of the final annual growth drivers to be implemented in this channel in DR.
Responsible for the creation and approval of compelling plans to deliver a sustainable growth in the channel through the NRM levers.
Responsible for the consolidation of findings and insights of this channel based on executional activities, feedback from customers and shoppers, Commercial team, and Distributors.
Financial Responsabilities:
Ensure M&E is applied on all relevant investments as per the agreed amounts.
Guarantee that NRM levers are embedded within CAP and Monthly processes for Colmados channel.
Guide and supervise CCA A&P BTL and TS to improve the different opportunities in Colmados channel.
Key Outputs/Deliverables:
Generates a deep customer and consumer understanding of the Colmados channel, main behaviours, characteristics, analysis, and insight generation to feed future plans. Work in alliance with CP team and Commercial teams to expand this process.
Leads the 3-year channel strategy based on clear trends and insights, at the service of CCA ambition.
Leads the sustainable and profitable growth strategy for the channel through the optimization of NRM levers.
Leads the development of the Trade Strategy for the channel for DR, defining main priorities, investment guidelines, NRM levers and clear recommendations on where to focus.
Leads the development of the main growth drivers (including land mechanics and Toolkits) for the channel as part of the cycle planning process along with the Marketing team. These growth drivers must deliver incremental value and/or profit to the business (Building Blocks).
Suggests the required level of investment behind different initiatives for the channel, through a clear Trade Strategy and the knowledge of the markets to generate growth.
Leads the Learning Session for the Colmados channel, based on clear rationales of what worked well and what doesn’t work, generating deep understanding and insights behind the rationales.
Defines the Picture of Success (Assortment and Activation) for these channels to guide the executional standards activated at POS.
Develops and presents the Channel Performance Review on a quarterly basis to generate clarity about the main outcomes, highlights and findings of the executional activities implemented.
Support the team in markets for promotional activations, as well as in-store/outlet visibility solutions and support materials to drive brilliant execution at the POS, focusing on channel needs and execution guidelines.
Performs regular trade visits to find opportunities and provide solutions to drive incremental sales.
Ensures full compliance with CARM controls and Diageo Code of Conduct and DMC or equivalent experience.
Leadership Responsibility
The role reports to the CMO Head, DR and is responsible for leading balanced and profitable growth through key Consumer, Shopper, Category and Customer strategies for Colmados Channel..
The role does not have direct reports but needs to work closely and be able to influence and builds links with CMO peers, MKT collaborators, commercial teams, distributor partners, external agencies, and Diageo external customers (LAC and global), behind a clear strategic agenda to develop and grow these channels across the region.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
English and Spanish required.
Demonstrated ability in sales and /or customer marketing/trade / shopper marketing areas with specific experience in the channel or the entertainment industry.
High level of external radar, curiosity and commercial understanding based on consumer trends. Insight generation is a critical component of the role.
Understanding of the total sales organization and how it operates to drive its effectiveness through Distributors.
Ability to build links and work collaboratively internally and externally with good influencing and negotiation skills.
Ability to work around and within a variety of different market conditions and demographic factors.
Strong analytical, presentation and project management skills.
Proactive, self-motivated, tenacious with commercial drive and commercial curiosity.
