Assistant Manager - Engineering - Hyatt Place Kuala Lumpur Bukit Jalil

Hyatt Place Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Jalil - marks the first Hyatt Place hotel in Malaysia. Located in Bukit Jalil, an affluent suburb located within the southern corridor of Kuala Lumpur, the hotelfeatures 250 guestrooms, a three-meal restaurant, large ballroom, 4 meeting rooms and flexible event space, Rooftop restaurant, a fitness centre, and a sky pool.

We are currently looking for an Assistant Manager - Engineering to join us as we continue to embark this exciting journey with the hotel. This position reports to the hotel Maintenance Security Manager. Due to work permit restrictions, this position is only open for Malaysian Citizen and Permanent Resident of Malaysia.

Customer Service

§ Handles all guest and internal customer complaints and inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, following through to ensure problems are resolved satisfactorily.

§ Assists with Host duties as requested and required due to operational needs.

§ Maintains positive guest and colleague interactions with good working relationships.

Operational

§ Through hands-on management, supervises closely all Hosts – Maintenance in the performance of their duties in accordance with Hotel Policies Procedures and applicable laws.

§ Works in a supportive and flexible manner with other departments, in a spirit of “We work through Teams”.

§ Carries out and completes all maintenance works/requests according to the established schedule and ensures high quality of finishing work. Pays particular attention to guest related jobs.

§ Ensures the Hosts are at areas of their assignment at all times.

§ Patrols public areas to detect fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment and maintenance issues.

§ Coordinates with Housekeeping to conduct quarterly preventative maintenance work for all guest rooms.

§ Monitors and controls the maintenance and energy expenses in all hotel areas daily and follow up with relative Lead Hosts or Hotel Managers.

§ Ensures the smooth running of all operational procedures within the department and in-relation to other departments.

§ Conducts enquiries and checks on all security and fire related incidents and submit initial reports.

§ Conducts daily briefing during each shift on the hotel’s activities/functions of the day to the Hosts and other hotel personnel.

Personnel

§ Assists to oversee the punctuality and appearance of all Hosts, making sure that they wear the correct uniform and maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene, according to the hotel and department’s grooming standards.

§ Monitors and motivates the performance of the Hosts.

§ Supports the implementation of The Hyatt Strategy, demonstrating and reinforcing Hyatt’s Purpose – We care for people so they can be their best.

§ Ensures that associates have a complete understanding of and adhere to associate rules and regulations.

Other Duties

§ Attends and contributes to all training sessions and meetings s as required.

§ Completes Welcome to HyattTraining for new Hires and Learning Activities within first 90 days and review as needed.

§ Is knowledgeable in statutory legislation

§ Is conversant with every detail of the hotel’s layout and the location and function of sprinkler system, smoke detectors, fire fighting equipment, emergency exits, fire control room, fire indicator panels, emergency evacuation, public address systems, emergency assembly area outside the hotel, fire/bomb threat and security procedures, hotel service lifts and first aid equipment.

§ Exercises responsible behaviour at all times and positively representing the hotel team and Hyatt International.

§ Maintains strong, professional relationship with relevant representatives from competitor hotels, business partners and other organisations.

§ Reads the hotel's Associate Handbook and has an understanding of and adheres to the hotel's rules and regulations and in particular, the policies and procedures relating to fire, hygiene, health and safety.

§ Ensures high standards of personal presentation and grooming.

§ Responds to changes in the Security/Engineering functions as dictated by the industry, company and hotel.

§ Carries out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education

Minimum a diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline.

Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in engineering, maintenance, or facilities management. Prior experience in a hotel, resort, or similar hospitality environment is preferred.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, fire safety systems, and building management systems (BMS).Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and energy conservation techniques

Ability to interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals.

Certifications (preferred but not mandatory)

Certified Energy Manager (CEM) OSHA or other safety certifications

Electrical Wireman License or equivalent

Leadership Management

Proven ability to supervise and lead engineering or maintenance teams.

Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills

Communication Skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to interact professionally with vendors, contractors, and other departments.

Computer Proficiency

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), and basic AutoCAD or facility software tools.

Education
