Job Description
Contribute to implementation of the company’s strategy through optimal management of underwriting and claims processes.
Sustainably grow agriculture business, assess, manage all agriculture risks and support the claims adjustment process to achieve growth and profitability of this class of business.
Support the underwriting and specialty functions by vetting client requests and providing solutions within the set-out time frames as per the underwriting matrix.
Carry out risk surveys for all agriculture risks and prepare reports on potential business in order to better understand the risks.Promote and sensitize the crop and livestock insurance product to the entire agriculture sector through field days, exhibitions, media, trade fares, farm visits.To acquire and develop agriculture and specialty business.Engage with re-insurers to develop/refine insurance products that suit the market needs in order to profitably grow this line of business.Assess, evaluate, and rate risks to ensure the company accepts and retains quality business.Provide expert advice during the claim’s adjustment process, including crop loss assessment and adjustment at the time of loss and livestock claims review.Carry out crop inspections, that is, Emergence, mid-season, and pre-harvest risk surveys on insured crops to assess, monitor and evaluate crop condition as well as loss if any and advice the company accordingly.Ensure timely and accurate agriculture quotations and follow ups.Ensure accuracy and timely communication of renewal notices/invitations and maintain a monthly report.Ensure that renewals are done in a timely manner in order to enhance customer retention.Respond to correspondence, queries, and complaints on for efficient service delivery.Train and sensitize staff, intermediaries, and other stakeholders in the to create awareness.Ensure that Underwriting files are well documented, and all communications and transactions are recorded.Monitor performance matrix of different Service Level Agreements.Work with supervisor/management to ensure there is an ongoing improvement process in place.Ensure underwriting data accuracy and completeness.Satisfactory carry out any other duties and/or tasks given by the ManagementCarry out process improvement processesRegulatory and Internal Compliance ManagementMaintain cordial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Document preparation and Report writing.Reviews risk submissions from clients, agents, and referrals, and underwrites insurance requests within guidelines of the underwriting manual and authority limits. Applies underwriting and risk-selection techniques to determine acceptability of new and renewal insurance risks.ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting Insurance CasesReview new business and renewal proposals to ensure acceptability and completeness of underwriting and rating information, providing price quotations for underwriters and referring unusual or complex cases to senior colleagues.
Underwriting AutomationCarry out allocated research and analysis to support the development, validation, and improvement of automated underwriting processes and systems.
Organizational Risk ManagementKeep track of risk parameters, identifying any deviations and reporting them to more senior colleagues. Involves working within established risk management systems.
Regulatory and Compliance ManagementInvestigate standard incidents using current regulatory and compliance processes, systems, and procedures, and take action to solve immediate compliance issues. Advise more senior colleagues on more complex problems.
External CommunicationsHelp others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.
RecommendationsAdvise managers how to apply a wide variety of existing procedures and precedents.
Document PreparationOrganize and prepare complex documents using a variety of applications for technology devices, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
Operational ComplianceDevelop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
Personal Capability BuildingDevelop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
